Isador Rayner.tlie new Sen ator from Maryland, rears back on his bind legs and yells out that Roosevelt is unsafe. Hot stuff! Ahout the only use the Parker cam paign is now is to provide places for the Bryan men who need a job.ntidit will not do that if the funds give Out. A Dkmocratic worker is said to have admitted In an unguarded moment that a miracle Is the only hope for bis party this year. A Balaam miracle? Mb. Pk ry Is ahout to make another dash lor the North Pole. It is ti bo hoped that some one will not have to make a dash after Peary, as is usually the case. After November 8 Judge Parker will be in a position to write a telegram an nouncing that the Republican tariff sys tem, like the gold standard, is iirevoca bly established. Sinck that report of Senator Clark's contribution of $1,000,000 to the Demo cratic campaign fund, several old Demo cratic States are insisting on being placed in the doubtful column. It is now stated that the nomination or H' nry Gasaway Davis will not gain 00 votes for the Democratic party. It was expected, however, to gain the price of a good many thousand votes. Thk Democratic party has been on both sidfs of nearly every important question during the last forty years, and the best they can boast of is being on the right side at ths wrong time. Vn haven't beard of any Democrats trying to answer Senator Knox's grra' spoech. Nobody but a blllygoat anyhow would I e foolish enough to chew on a file. They have more gumption than we thought. Hon. Jamk.sk ay Jones, of Arkansas, the ex-chairman of the Democratic commit tee is again predicting Democratic suc cess. We have a very distinct recollec tion of the same predictions by him in '96 and 1000. Thk Hon. John Sharpe Williams says Mr. Koosevelt is no better than bis party. He does not claim to he. Neither is Judge Parker any better than bis party, which believes in free trade, free silver and free riot. Despite the heavy payments for the Panama canal and other improvements the treasury receipts are now in daily ex cess of the disbursements. In other words the treasury department is not go ing Democratic. Democrats claim to have helped to start the Spanish-American war; yet they try to find lault with the President because he believes in being ready to lick any fellow who will be satisfied with nothing loss. Afteh all, isn't it a fairly good com montary on Koosevelt that half the trusts are said by his opponents to be lining up against him because they are afaid of him and the ollior half tumbling over them selves to make frionds with him for the same reaon ? Ex-Govenor Crane's appointment to tho Senate to succeed th'o late Senator Hoar ought to he very satisfactory to the Presidont, who entertains a high opinion of Mr. Crane's abilit ies. A Cabinet office u declined bv Mr. Crane. He is not an oralor.'bnt hn is a man orsound judg ment, is familiar with national .politics ami with tho affairs of Massachusetts, and has hail wide experience in business, and can tie of great usefulness to New Eng land. He was ono of tho best governors Massachusetts ever had, and will hn an honor to the Stat j. 2Q JOHN H, ROBKRT.WN, FRANK X. KKKI'LKR. VM. II, H ARlUSOlf.- OUR COUNTY CANDIDATES. THE local ticket of the Republican party in Forest county thisyearisan exceptionally meritorious one in all respects, the candidates nam d for the sev eral offices being meu in whom the peo ple repose confidence, and are worthy the support of every Republican in the coun ty. That the ticket will be elected by safe majorities scarcely admits ot doubt, overcontidence alone cau in the least jeopardise the outcome. While the cam paign is and has beeu a quiet one it is not one in which the voters are taking no interest, by any means. The Republi cans, and a good many Democrats as well, are satisfied to let well enough alone, and do not want a change, and they will be at the polls and vote accord ingly. A few words regarding our nom inees for county offices will not bo amiss at this time: JOHN II. HOIIEKTMON, ofTionesta Borough, Republican nomi nee for the important office of Assembly, is so well and favorably kuown to the people of Forest county that be scarcely needs an introduction. His six years' service in the office of Prothonotary was so well performed and so highly satisfac tory to the people that they seemed will ing to extend him further favors, and be was nominated for Assembly, and his election on the 8th day of next November can with positive certainty be predicted. That he will render the same attentive and efficient service at Hariisbnrg goes without saying. Mr. Robertson has, we might say, been reared in Forest county, having spent a greator portion of bis life within its borders, and having been so situated as to know its every need, hence will be in a position to work and vote in telligently on any measure that may come before the legislature affecting the interests of tne county. Filled with am bition and energy to do bis best for bis constituents be will rapidly make friends in the House, a feature which counts much for the uselulnes of a member of Assembly. There are important matters to come betore the legislature at its next session, not the least of which will be the election of a United States Senator. Pennsylvania will want to send a man there that will hold up the bands of Pres ident Roosevelt. Mr, Robertson may be depended upon to do bis duty faithfully in this as well as in all other matters touching the welfare of his people. Do your whole duly by giving him your Hurrah for Our "Uncle Joe." "Speaker Cannon is all right, but I want te tell you that there is another 'Uncle Joe' in the field besides the dis tinguished commoner from Illinois," re marked Dr. Edward Bedlne, the famous orientalist and bon vivant, at tbe Shore bam, Washington. "Tho other 'Uncle Joe' is the Hon. Jo seph SiLley, of Pennsylvania, and I am here to proclaim the fact that he will be the next Republican candidate lor gover nor of the great Keystone State. What's the matter with Sibley 7 Nothing, abso lutely nothing. He is not only big enough to be governor of Pennsylvania, but big enough lor President. As a rep resentative of the people ho has been a pronounced success: charitable, patriot ic, and broad minded, he lias impressed himself on the public as one of the best and noblest of the publio men of this age.'' It was au unhappy but suggestive ref erence which ex-President Cleveland made to the influences which prevailed upon him to ally himself with tbe Demo cratic party, when on reaching bis ma jority he chose to support the candidate who was least fitted of all public men of his time to meet Iheovershadowingques tion which was fast forcing itself upon the stage of American politics in 1850. The gathering of tbe aggressive and vig orous elements of the north under tbe banner of the newly organized Republi can party, with a proclaimed purpose to meet tquarely the moral issue which bad been persistently evaded by the Demo cratic and Whig parties, made no appeal to the sy in path iei of the young Cleveland entering upon the political scenes. He chose Buchanan and tho party dominated by the slave-owners of the South, rather than Freemont and the party which Lad arisen In response to the newly awaken ed demands of the Noitli. Lincoln and Grant and all of the admirable figures that pressed to the front In tbe great con flicts, political ana martiHi, wnicii urover Cleveland witnessed while in ihe first Hu h of young manhood, made no appeal to bis sympathies. He started out in po litical life by supporting tbe weakest of American Presidents and his article on "Why a Young Man Should Vote the Democratic Ticket," tbe weakest pub lished paper which bears bis signature, oilers nothing to the young man ot today but an Incomprehensible explanation of the first choice ot a young man who was not touched by the growing spirit of his day and chose as bis political ideal the supinely inefficient Buchanan. fcTATROF Ohio City, ok Toledo, 1 Lut'i;s County, i Frank J. The extent of this firm's business is so wrll known to our people that it is scarcely necessary to go into details, suffice it to say, that iu all of Mr. Kreitler's business affairs, reach ing up into the hundreds ol thousands of dollars, and coming iu contact with hun dreds of laboring men, lie has never had au unkind word nor a disagreement with a single person employed by him. So uniformly kind, honorable and fair bave bis dealings been that one nover bears anything but the highest praise from those who have been employed un der bis management or bad business dealings with him, and ono oft- n hears it remarked that Mr. Kreitler was never known to do an unjust or unfair act against a fellow man, but that friend or foe will always receive courteous treat ment and equal and exact justice at his bands.
