Tiieue is a groat exhibition of rogues at St. Louis. This means photographs of people who have once been caught as rogues; it has nothing to do with the fa mous St. Loui boodlers. It is only a question of time when the old silver dollar of our daddies will be scarce and valuable, since Congress lias decreed that they be recoined into subsi darycoin. Put away a few in some old stocking. At a recent meeting of French manu facturers it was decided that there was no cotton like the American, and they pro pose to uso it, Thoy refused to join Eng land and Belgium in their efforts to down American cotton. Only three years ago Judge Alton B. Parker wrote: "I have no ambition whatever lor pol.tical office, either exec utive or legislative." He appears to be a philosopher which the result of tho next election will not disturb in the least. If the torpedo proves to be the coming 1. aval weapon of warfare, as some ex perts advocate, England and her big fleet may bo Injured under the fifth rib. It will be remarkable if alj the big warships are to turn turtle and become obsolete. A giant lice trust has been formed in somo of the Southern Slates, to control the cultivation of that cereal and boom the market. Steps have been taken in Taxis to fisjht the unlawful combination. Tho great trick is to iuduce Americans to live on a diet of rico. England has what may be called a "rum aristocracy. " The discovery has beon made that in that country there are 1(17 peers, 129 mem Iters of Parliament, and 880 titled persons, who are finan cially interested in the liquor trade. And yet there aro honest and well meaniug people in that country who work and preach for temperance reform. The Oil City Blizzard says: While Lis friends are anticipating an early termina nation of his earthly career, Senator Quay goes right along making plans for the summer just as if he expected to remain in the land of the living indefinitely. While he has abandoned all idea of going abroad this summer, he expects to re main in Washington for several weeks, and will then go to bis home in Beaver. He intends to visit Maine and spend the greater part of the summer there. SkNATOR Teller, of Colorado, who as pires to be regarded as profound and wise and who is inclined to take himself ser iously, said this recently : "The Demo cratic party never knows who it is going to nominate for the Presidency until alter the convention meets, becauso it is the mass of the party that makes the declara tion." That is really rich in the face of the fact that the party leaders have picked out Judge Parker, a man of whom the rank and file of the voters have never heard, and are already giving out the or ders that he must be the nominee. This is easily done because there appears to be no Democrat whose pre-eminent iitness is recognized by the rank and file of the party, and whose nomination is unmis takably demanded by the voters, as is al most invariably true ol the Republican party. Puuxy Spirit. Tub danger of experimenting in hyp Holism is illustrated in the case of Doctor Collins, for many years a medical prac titioner in a fashionable section of New Yoik, who recently entered Bellevue hospital in that city and requested an ex amination to determine whether or not he had heroine mentally unbalanced. There are two sidutes to the flag taught in the public schools, the one for the old er scholars being; "I pledge allegieoce to my Hag and to the Republic for which it stands; one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." That suit is cut on block patterns approximately to your measure aud made in a ready made shop by team garment makers not tailors and is in every way inferior to high class ready-to-wear clothing.
