With both treaties ratified the extra session of the Senate was not In vain. Forty acres of pure plaster of Paris have just been discovered in Oklahoma. The gypsum has been converted into plaster by a forest fire. A noted geologist declares that the an thracite coal in the United Slates will hold out sixty years longer. Consumers see their finish long before that. Mr. Bryan and Mr. Cleveland are mutually excluding each other from the Democratic fold. Meanwhile the coun try will exclude the fold and wheie will the party ue then, poor thirg. Sknatok Morgan has at last proved his title to be known as a wonderful old man. He uttered 1,307,900 words against the Panama canal treaty. Shakespeare only wrote 850,000 'n all his works. The Washington posioflice requires 4f2 clerks, while Cleveland, with greater revenues, requires but 1S5. The entire difference is due to the franking priv ilege accorded Government officials The Democrats in the Senate under the leadership of Mr. Gorman are planning a concerted attack on the Dingley tarilTand the whole policy of protection. The at tack will settle Ihe next Presidential election by a thorough rout of Democ racy. Microphonics so delicate bavo been made, it is said, that with one the groans of a dying fly can be beard. To most people the knowledge that the fly is dy ing affords sufficient satisfaction, how ever. Since the United Stales bas made its modest choice of two coaling stations in Cuba, the inhabitants of the Islands show a less suspicious feeling toward this country. At last they are apparently persuaded ol the disinterested action of Uncle 8am. The impression bas gone abroad some how or another that the Pennsylvania legislature has passed an anti-wlfe-kiss- lng law. This, we are assured, is not the case, and the laudable practice of wife kissing, now and then, may be indulged in without tear of arrest, that's counting that every fellow kisses bis own wife. The meeting of the Republican County Committee at Republican headquarters last Thursday evening was quite well at tended. The question of holding the regular spring primaries was discussed and it was the unanimous opinion of those in attendance that a meeting of the committee should be called for Satuiday, April 25tb, at 2 o'clock p. m., for the pur pose of taking the matter up and dis posing of it. The announcement ol Senator William P. Snyder's candidacy and prospective nomination for Auditor General by the next Republican State convention is said to please his great host of friends in his home county of Chester immensely. Wherever the Senator is known, and that is in practically every section nf the Stale, he is very popular. Iu him the party would have a strong candidate, with a clean record and free from party factionalism. It is said the legacy of a certain man in Kew York is the secret which bring him $ 10,000 a year. His father invented the only ink which will print on the peculiar surface of the bank notes of the United Stales. On his death bed be communi cated the secret to his son. This man locks himsell op for about two weeks, every year and makes a sufficientquanti ty of the fluid to supply the government for twelve months, for which be receives fr0,000. Now, this sounds mighty well but if some reliable fellow will vouch tor Its truthfulness it will help the story im mensely. Suppose the fellow with the secret should suddenly croak with apo plexy or heart failure, what would this glorious Uuii.ii do for new "spondulix T" It's taking too gieat risk to leave this se cret in Ihe bosom of an ordinary individ ual. Uki i ni.K A.Ni policy has not caused the rain or sunshine, but it has supplied and protected the market open to the things the rain and the sunshine have brought forth. Nature has given the land, and with all its latent possibilities, but the land would be going to waste if there were no marts for that it yields. Indus try has boen stimulated from the certain ty that its effort would not be for naught. A glance back at the awful times of the early nineties will recall to mind that then the acres were as fruitful, and the bBiid of toil as calloused by honest en deavor. There was the rain and the sun shine. Harvest followed seed time. Yet th looms were silent because none had the means to purchase. To gather the crops was futile, for none would buy. The country was poor beciuso of the arti ficial and unwholesome financial atmos phere, and the atmosphere was the ex pression of Democratic faith put into works. All Commend the (Governor. No cuief executive of this Common wealth ever won such wide and generoua approbation within the first three mouths of his term as Governor Peiinypackcr bas. Men of all parties and the press of a 1 I Mnv.inn n i t rt, I in aaiii IHAHil i Hit llllll I ail yni lien mo iiii.'iui iiiiviiitiiciivin ... lor what be nas already oone. This is no surprise to lhoe who per sonally knew Governor Pennypackor or who had knowledge of his record as a cit izen and a judge says the Philadelphia Press. There was never any q ueslin'i on their part as to the character of the ad ministration he would give the State. The suggestion of his name for the nomi nation instantly brought to his support that element of the party which had been dissatisfied for some years with the course of party atlairs, and the nomina tion resulted in completo party har mony for the first time since lSi't. Inde pendents, stalwarts, all who made any pretension to being Republicans, got to gether in support of the candidate in whom they had confidence. And that confidence has been sustained by every act of the C overnor since he assumed of fice. He has not only justified thecontidence of his friends and supporters for the nom ination and election, but he has confoun ded those who opposed him. The cmlial and deserved commendation of the Dem ocratic newspapers now cruelly shatter the predictions of the same organs made during the campaign. They have credit, however, for the frankness and the evi dent sincerity they show in acknowledg ing the services to the public already ren dered by the Governor. They have been able to discover that he bus a purpose and a policy comprehending the best inter ests of all the people. Watchful and painstaking in the ex treme, no detail escapes ihe attention of Governor Pennvpacker. He has dis played an aptness for the work coining to his hands and a grasp of atlairs altogether unusual. He has dignified the great of fice he holds. He has brought the pub lic mind back to the contemplation of old fashioned and wholesome respect for constitutional requirements, just laws and decent legislation. He has raised no party quarrel in doing this; he has antag onized no party interost. He has given the State a demonstration of the fact that the public interests do not conflict with the broadly considered interests of the great party which elected him. Nothing could do more to strengthen the party in Pennsylvania than the clean and clear-sighted policy of the Governor. No one in the organization or out of it can fail to appreciate this. Endeavor. Endeavor Union held an entertain ment at the kindergarten looms on a re cent Friday evening, which was very pleasant as well as profitable. Notwith standing the icy roads and steady rain fall there was quite a good attendance. A short literary and musical program was disposed of, Miss Pcter9 of Tidioute, rendering some very fine music on the mandolin. After close of exercises de licious cream, cakes and candies were sold. Proceeds are to be used to engage speaker in the near future. Our Union should have had more re ports, as it has been quite active, doing much work all through the year. Busi ness meetings, alternating with mothers' meetings, have been held regularly each month, at which many interesting sub jects are studied and discussed and cur rent events introduced. Through the kindness and generosity which is characteristic of Mrs. Wheeler, our little village is the proud possessor ol a new kindergarten building which is very fins and a benefit to both old and young, as it may be used for all purposes for which we need a hall or room for so cial affairs, as well as for the children. Miss Judson is a very efficient teacher of tje kindergarten work, teaching class es of different grades. Also gives instruc tions to a class of ladies in the art of Rafia, reed weaving, tc. A Tabard Inn library has been placed in tne nsti, also me w: v. l. U. ana a free shelf ol books. This is an advantage much appreciated by all. At the initial meeting hold in the building Miss Vau Kennessier, or itanoolpu, ;n. i .. was present and gave the union a very inter esting and instructive talk on household economics. gioo it i:vakii, nttxh The readers of this paper will be pleased to leani that there is tit least one dreaded disease that science has been able to cure in nil its staie.s, and that is Catarrh. "When I had an attack of the grip last winter (the second one) I actually cured myself with one liotllo of Chamberlain's Cough Itemed y," says Frank W. Perry, Kdltorof the Knterprise, Shortcville, N. Y. "This is the honest truth. I at times kept from coughing myself to pieces by taking a teaspoonfnl of tliis runedy, nd when the couirhing sifll would romo on at night I would take a dose and it would pass otl and 1 would go to sleep perlectiy free from cough end its accompanying paiiM. To say that the remody acted as a most agreealde surprise is putting it mildly. I had no idea thnt it would or could knock flit the grip, simply liecause I had never tried it lor such a purpose, but it did. ami it seemed with the second attack of coughing tho remedy caused it t) not only be of less duration, but the pains were far less severe, and I had not used the contents of one bollltt before Mr. Grip hail bid mo adieu."
