AUDITOR. F. S. Hunter. The election takes place on next Tues day even In p. Feb. Kith, 1897. Let all Re publican voters turn out and keep up the reputation of the borough as strongly Republican. The Republican nominees are all representative men and we can easily elect the entire ticket. Don't get that old fogle notion Into your head that a municipal election amounts to nothing, for it does amount to a good deal to the tax payer. All good, patriotic Republi cans turn out. This is the last month of the Dem ocratic administration and it goct without saying that the American people are truly tbnokful. Another cause fur thaokfgiviDg it that this is the shortest month in the year. The only satisfaction that the erancrata can God now is to renew campaign tactics and abuse Hanna, as they can find do fault with Mo- Kinley or his coming cabinet. The fact of the matter is that the Demo cratH, Popocratsand all the other old "crata" are in a pretty hard strait hie coonrtnalion ol au Illinois gold Democrat by the United States Senate by a vote of 41 to 15 is pretty good criterion that the Chicago platform is wauing. to fact it is dsad, and if you want to male a Pop ocrat "hot" just remind him of that fact and you will see his whiskers commence to snarl. There is reason to believe that we are about entering upon a more pros perous season. In the course of an ' article on "The Coming of Prosper ity," the Baltimore American makes tho following very seusible observa tion : "All real movemeuts of pros perity are gradual. They are not booms. The progress along safe aod conservative lines. The coming of better times is all the more sure be cause it is deliberate." A bilf is in preparation, and will be presented to the legislature neit week by Senator Perry Gibson of Erie, eliminating politics from the management of the public schools, and providing that principals shall appoiot their own teachers. Among other reforms, ex-Mayor Pearson, of Allegheny, bas been agitating tbe question for some time, and has the support of many leading citizens of Pittsburg and Allegheny. Tbe prin cipal idea is to take the fuuetion of electing teachers from tbe school boards, and tbus do away with the "pulls" and political influence now deemed so pernicious to the cause of "public education. The burning of the State Capitol building at Harrisburg just when the legislature bad gotten nicely in run ning order for tbe session, and right on the heels of an expenditure of tev eral thousand dollars for repairs and remodeling, which had made it, on tbe inside, one of the handsomest and most comfortable buildings imagina ble, is geatly to be deplored, but tbe - business of the session Is not to be seriously interfered with, as both tbi House and Senate have beeu provi ded with quarters in tbe Grace Meth odist Episcopal church, a large and commodious edifice, where it is be lieved the work of the legislature can be carried on with a reasonable de gree ol coiutort and convenience Since the fire a movement has beeu set on foot by tbe Philadelphia peo pie to have the capitol removed to tbat place, but the idea will scarcely carry, as tbe middle aod western por tion of the State representatives will be practically all against such proposition. Very many valuable books and documents were destroyed by the tire, 'lie School Department suffering the greater loss, practically nothing having beeu saved from tbat room. The journals aod bills of both Houses weie saved aud they can go ou with very Utile interruption. Forest County Agicultural Society Attention.
