Ho was a son of James Range, one of the sons of Lt. John Range, who settled at Tionesta early in the century, and was tho Rule survivor of his father's family. James Range, the father ot he subject of o:tr sketch, came ft Tinnesta about lS2.r, with his father, nnd settled on the land on which t'-o borough of Tionesta now stands. At that t ime Iho father of Jacob I. Rango owned all tho land from May street to Tubbs run. He subse quently sold it to Rev. Ilezet-'iah May. II is father then removed to Scrubgritss township, Venango Co. Jacob 1. was then I.') years old. lie remained In Scrub- grass township about live years, when tho family came back. tlo afterward purchased nnd elenrd a farm in Harmo ny township in lsiH, on which he lived until the oil exeitemcn of ls'15, when ho sold out, nnd bought the farm on Stew arts Run on which he lived continuously until Hie limn of his death. In lsi3 he married Miss Ann Hunter, tho daughter of tho pioneer, Win. Hunter. Mrs. Range died October It, 1SS7. Four chil dren, Mrs. Belle Parker, of Marquette, Kansas; Mr-'. Jennie R. Alleiuler. of West Hickory, Pa.; Leonard M. Range, of Stewarts Kun, and Mrs. Imio F. Norris, of Sylvan Groco, Kansas, and ten grandchildren survive him. In pol itics Mr. Range was a Republican, and in faitli a Methodist, He was a use ful man in his day and generation and was highly respected by all w ho knew him. Rev. R. A. Huzza of tho M.
