The offers of gold to the Govern ment are another indication that this is a billion-dollar country. An iron bed for an engine weighing 60 tons was cast in one piece in Bal timore last weeft. There will be no diffiulty about casting big gum when the necessity arises. It is understood that Campos ad vises his Government to make impor tant home rule concessions in Cuba. His council will not be heeded until Weyler tries his reign of terror. Af ter that the island will either be a blackened waste or a new American republic. The Dominion Parliament has acropiea & resolution amrming pana da's "unalterable loyalty to the Brit-J isq tnrone ana constitution. in spite of this unalterable fact, many thousands of Canadians cross the border every year and become citi zens of the United States. Col. Lucius Rogers, of the Kane Republican, is announced as a candi date for Assembly in McKean coun ty. The Republicans up there would hunt a long time before they would find one among their number who it better adapted for the place. His many years' experience, not as a member, but as an officer in legisla tive bodies, most admirably fit him for doing good work for bis people, where his thorough knowledge and pup-uiarnjr wuuiu uuuju iu piay 10 idb great avdantage of his constituents. The McKean Republicans will do themselves proud by electing Mr. Rogers. The call upon Senator Quay, by leading Republicans from all sections of the State has been so spontaneous and unanimous that be has yielded to the pressure and consented to stand as Pennsylvania's choice for Presi dent at the St. Louis convention. The old argument that the Keystone State is forever barred from having a candidate for the Presidency because she is so rock-ribbed in her Republi canism and can always be counted on to give ber electors to that party, is no longer considered the proper thing, and there seems no good reason why the very opposite ebculd not be the rule, and that for her very loyalty she should be accorded the honor of furnishing the candidate. The as surances of support to the junior Sen ator do cot by any means all come from bis own State, but from every section of the Union. That he would give the country a thorough business administration even his enemies will admit, while his platform of purer government for city, state and na tional affairs is one which every hon est voter can cheerfully endorse. Bro. SmcK of the Marienville Expr&t pays his compliments to a few of the craft in the following item: "The newspaper men of this section of the Slate take to the legislature like ducks to water, providing, of course, they can get there. W. O. Smith of the Punx'y Spirit, Geo. R. Dixon of the Elk Democrat, and our own J. E. Wenk of the Forest Re ruBMCAN, were all popular members of the lait legislature and expect to be sent back. And now Col. L. Rogers of the Kaoo Jirpubliean, is announced as a legislative candidate in Mckean county. When the voters cf this section of the State are represented by sucn men as are named above their interests will be well looked after." Fou Sale or Will Exchange for Lumber.
