The wife of James Black who lives upon the road leading to Tylers burg, about two miles south of Tin- nesta, was quite severely injured last Friday. In some way, she fell from the mow of the barn to the barn floor, a distance of about 12 feet, alighting ou her head and shoulders. Dr. Bow man was summoned and found bit patient suffering from iuflamation at the base of the brain. Yesterday her condition was considered quite serious but to day she is somewhat better, we are glad to report, aod is considered out of danger. Everybody has noticed how very cheap wool aud sheep have been sell ing, since the passage of the Gorman tariff law ; Sheep in Ohio bringing at one sale only (4.50 a dozen and at another going for 15c apiece ; but remained for Forest county to get down even finlier than this, Last week John Burhenn of German Hill bought 20 sheep for four cents five for a cent. The 1S00 bushels of chestnuts, which, i far, have been niarketod this year, from Bomorset, have sold for about a cent and a half a pound, a price, which shows the wisdom of the advice that Governor Reaver so repeatedly gave In his public addresses to the people of the mountain portions of Pennsylvania, when he told them that chestnuts would pay better than wheat. At present prices they do. The chestnut crop will bring to Somerset county, this year, flOO.OOO. Ex. "A farmer in Allianoe. O.. forgoes a hard winter, and thus tolls why: 'The feathers on the geese are heavier than ev er before. My vounc lambs are growing wool that seems marvelous, and sheep that have been sheared are rapidly re gaining their fleece. These signs woro visible in 1857 and 1S5H.' These may ne winter portents; but likely they are merely the signs of the increased output of fealher bods and blankets demanded for the comfort of the people in these bet ter times." TituBville Citizen. As to the sheep the Citizen is mistaken The increased out of wool is a precau tionary measure, on the part of the sheep, to keep up the aggregate price of his fleece, by making an increased output to compensate for the fall in price per lb., occasioned by the free wool tariff. As to the feather business we dofor to the editor of the Citizen, on a question re lating to tha process of reasoning by which the goose reaches its conclusions on tariff matters.
