Immenso lino of Fall and Get registered cans. at once, Ropubli to William Carlyle Arnold, of Du Boia, who was nominated by the Re publican conference of the 28th dis trict for Congrees, is the son of tb well known merchant Samuel Arnold now of of Gurwensville, but former ly of Luthersburg, Clearfield county and was boru io the latter place 1851. He was educated at the pub lio schools of Curwensville, and fin ished at the historic Phillips Acade my at Andover, Mass. While yet very young man be entered the Cor wensville National Bank, and served several years there as teller. Io 1873 he commenced the study of law Clearfield, and was duly admitted practice in June 1875. His career as a lawyer is familiar to our people, and has been both bi i liant and successful. His exceeding cleverness of resource, his ready el qoence, ana dis knowledge ot men J (Y . n ana anairs give uim great influence with a jury, and be has been on tba winniog side of many importan cases. He has almost from the be ginning of bis practice, taken high rank in the profession, and is noted as one of the finest speakers at tbe Bar. In 1874 be was married to Miss Jane Pattoo Irvin, daughter of the late William Irvin of Curwensville. His family consists of three sons and a daughter. Mr. Arnold spent a few years in Huron, where he has made invest ments in real estate in tbe expecta tion that Huron would be selected as the capital of South Dakota. His hopes, however, in Ibis regard were disappointed, and be returned to Clearfield county, locating in the thriving city of DuBois. Since his return he has been enjoying a large practice, and bis management of the cases entrusted to him has added to bis reputation. In politics Mr. Arnold has always been a staunch Republican, and has eloquently advocated Republican principles on the stump iu every cam paigu since 1876. His genial man ners, his ready sympathies, and bis generous heart, render him popular with all classes, and his neighbors, Republican and Democrat alike, are his hearty friends aud well wishers. It is to be hoped that he will be able to meet the people of all parts of this district, fur he is one who fav orably impresses all who come in con tact with him. Iiafisman't Journal, Clearfield, Pa. spectator. Ihese gentlemen lotorm- Uy talked tbe situation over with representatives from Ldk, Cameron and Clarion counties. Everybody was in good humor, no one having 'blood in bis eye," and all were on band simply to do the best for tbe district, regardless of personalities. With this sort of feeling it was not possible for anv ill feeling to come up. Mr. Craig was not auxious for the nomination and be and bis con ferees felt very friendly to Forest and to Dr. Towler. Cameron county .bad no candidate and was there simply for the best to be done, and they felt friendly to Forest and the Doctor. Mr. Baker, Elk county's candidate is a splendid fellow and a man of ability, but even Elk and Mr. Baker was only on hand for the best for the party. It was well known, or as the politicians say, "an open secret," that Dr. Towler could have bad the nom ination with very little effort. But (and herein consists tbe secret of par ty success) Dr. Towler and his friends were firmly convinced that the can didate that could poll the most votes Bhould be nominated, and the logical candidate under all circumstances was Mr. Craig, and to Mr. Craig it went unanimously, after n few com plimeolaries. Mr. Craig being introduced made a bappy little speeob andfpromised to do his best to win. Dr. Towler con gratulated the convention on its choice, and said that in his view it was the strongest that could.be made. Every one present agreed to this, and the convention was declared by the chairman, Mr. McNarney, of Camer on, adjourned. So began and so ended, perhaps one of the most pleas ant nominating conventions tnat was ever held in this section. Mr. Craig is a substantial, influen tial and popular business man of New Bethlehem, of whom we will be pleased to give extended notice an other time. Unnrnnterd i'nre. In tbe state of Obio alone the annual income from tbe wool industry baa been not less than $5,000,000, which represents an eg regate capital of $25,000,000 to $30,-000,000. "The flock masters will now be compelled kill their sheep and sell the flesh for food, for there will no longer be any profit iu raising for tbe wool clip. Within three or four years, or before the Republicans in tbe next Congrees can put into operation a law replacing wool on tbe list of pro tected industries, tbe flocks will have become so depleted aud scattered that it will take 15 or 20 years for the wool interests to regain their present status."
