Tbe second Monday nigbt of each month was fixed as the time for the regular meetings of the board. Fri day eveoing, Jone 29th was fixed as tbe date for the election of teachers We are pleased to observe tbat A. Wayne Cook, Esq., who has received the indorsement of Forest county for the nomination for cougress in this District, is in town looking over the situation in the District, with a view f determining whether or not be will a candidate fur tbe nomination. He did not wish, as we understand it, to antagonize any Centre county man and is simply looking tbe ground ver. He is a man of large business merest?, of hoe personal appear- nces, of genial manners and would make a winning candidate, if any ne can win in the District. So far as we know, Centre county will pre sent no candidate and if Mr. Arnold whose announcement is made in an other column, should be tbe choice of Clearfield county, the nomination would lie between Mr. Cook and Mr. Arnold. Mr. Conk has made a very avorable impression upon our people, and a number with whom we have consulted seem to think that he would make an acceptable candidate. JJeuefonte Gazette, June 8. This office was favored on Tburs day with a call from Mr. A. Wayne Cook, or Uooksburg, and J. IS. Ag- new, Ji.sq., of 1 lunesta, both in for est county. Mr. Cook is one of the argest lumber dealers and manufac turers in Forest county, aud is one of ta most promising citizens. At tbe recent county convention tbe confer ees were instructed to support him for Congress and it was in the interest of bis candidacy that the two gentlemen visited Hellelonte. ibus far, through out the entire district, composed of the ccunties of Clarion, Forest, Elk, Clearfield and Centre, the only Re publican candidates who are before tbe people, or who are likely to come before the conference, are W. (J. Arnold, Esq.. of Dubois, and Mr. Cook, and we have no hesitency iu saying that for various reasons Mr. Cook will make tbe most available candidate and Centre could not do better tban to stand firmly by bim, inasmuch as there are no aspirants from this county. Mr. Cook is as yet comparatively a young man, of commanding and dignified appear ance and with a character and repu tation above one word of reproach. He is clean cut and progressive. A business man from boyhood, he has come up through the ranks ana knows the needs of the people of this district as well, if not better, than tbe majority of men. And should be be oomioated be will enter the contest to win and, if elected, tho Twenty-eighth Congressional district will be sending as a representative to tbe National Capital a man who will represent tbe people first, last and all tbe time Bellefonte Daily Alews. A. Wayue Cook was born at Cooksburg, Forest couuty, about forty years ago, is a son of the late Judge A. Cook, and is one of our most prominent lumbermen, having large business interests in the coun ties of Foiest and Clarion. He is well educated, and in every way qual ified to represent this district in Con gress intelligently. For nearly twen ty years prior to his father's death he was the principle supeiiutendent and manager of bis extensive lumber in terests, and is now tbe administrator as well us one of the owuers of tbat large estate. Mr. Cook is one of our most reliable business men, a gentle man of unimpeachable character, and niversally popular. He and his family have always been true and re- iable Republicans and influential workers in the party. While he has always beeo an active aud successful worker, contributing much to the sue cess of the Republican party, Mr Cook bas never before sought or ac cepted tbe nomination for any office u tbe gift of our people other tban that of delegate to the Republican State convention for General Beaver when last nominated for Governor, and in 1892 was chosen as one of the delegates from this district to tbe Re publicau National Convention at Minneapolis. Mr. Cook is a winner and if given the nomination in this district will make an earnest and winning cam paigc, aud we feel safe in Baying that his cbancos are good tor carrying Forest county by from 500 to 800 majority, and that with bim as our candidate the district can be won by the Republicans. In all caudor we believe Mr. Conk to be the most available candidate now before the people who is willing to stand for tbe district nomination, and we are pleased to note how cordially his candidacy is received in all parts of the district where be has been.
