It should be remarked right ere that Editor Cowan is wideawake nd knows a good thing on sight Our neighboring county-seat, Tio nesta, seems to be on the highway of prosperity. A Mail man saw many evidences of comfort, thrift aod pros perity io a short visit there recently. New water works have lately been put in, furnishing a large supply of cold spring water, and connections with the street mains are now being dded by Amann & Schellhammer, through that experienced plumber, Ferd M. Lesser, of Warren. Many the residents are fitting their houses aod places of business with water pipes, and private sewers are being laid, but a public sewer will be put in the main street next spring, thus adding much to the health of the town. With an abundance of cheap gas, pure water, and pleasant, health ful location, good schools aod church es, Tionesta is a superior place, to live in and seems to be prosperous in a business way. Tionesta is fortunate in having two good weekly newspapers in the Re publican, and Vindicator which pub ish the locul and general news in a very creditable manner. And is also fortunate in possessing two wide awake and progressive hotel men wbo take pleasure in caring for the travel er, and are well known to Warreo people. We allude to Mr. L. Agoew of the Lawrence House, who is refit ting and refurnishing this old and popular hotel and will soon change its name to Hotel Agoew, which is more appropriate. Last, but not least in size, is Landlord O. C. Brow nell and his old and favorite travel er's borne, the Central House both of which are very popular with patrons. The last paragraph of Mr. Cowan a article has a personal reference which our native modesty compels us to omit. Burglars In Harlenrllle. The Es press gives the following an count of a bold robbery which occurred in MarienvlUe last week : Wednesday morning between one and two o'clock live masked burglars broke Into Taltrovitch's Jewelry store and were preparing to make a clean sweep when frightened away. J. P. Gutb sleeps In the store, but on this occasion, in compa ny with Peter Kiser was out "among them." The boya were returning home when a masked man met them at Am sler'a store and presenting a revolver or dered them to stop. Oh no. Peter took down Cherry street like the wind, aud still insists that be was followed to the watering trough, where he distauced his persuer. Quth made a break for the store, but was intercepted by another masked man who threw him down and holding a revolver to bis face threatened to shoot if be made any noise. But the fear of death did not prevent Outh from using his lungs, and to quiet him one of the robbers struck him on the head with a revolver, cutting quite a gash. By this time the people near by began to stir, aud the robbers left by the Byromtown road. An examination of the store showed that the robbers bad taken all the jewelry left out of the safe, several hundred dollars worth, and had drilled through the top of the safe and had the powder and fuse Inserted all ready to blow it open. Had tbey succeeded they would have made a good haul. The members of the gang are ev idently professionals as they made a good job ou the safe. A lady who lives above the store says they had not been at work more than fifteen minutes. She was awake but too badly frightened to give an alarm, Do you want to improve your methods of teacbiogr Do you desire to increase your power for good ? Do you need new ioceotives, fuller inspir atioo and greater teaching force? If so attend the Edioboro Normal School. Winter term begins Decern ber 4ib. Martiu G. Benedict. 2t. School Notes. The attendance for the present month. which ends Friday, shows that the school is fuller than it has ever been before ; tbe number tardy was never less, and the interest manifested by the pupils in their work is very grati- iog to tbe teacheis.
