A Keeley m-chlorido of gold cure, a branch of the big one at Dwlght, has boon started at Tionesta, with Dr. J. B. Hlgglns In charge. It's curious fact that the de mand for and patronage of these "Jag cures" comes so largely from places that have no license. Tionesta ha none, and Warren, which ha been so largely repre nonted at Dwlght, has until recently been classified as a dry town. Franklin Newt. Just the kind of place to sober-up In, you know. Frnnklin parties specially invited to come and bring their "Jags" with them. Tho great trust of the Staudard Oil Company Is getting ready to dissolve I It must astonish the general public to learn that tho first and greatest of the mighty brood of trusts is likely to be the first to disband. A speclnl meeting of the stock holders, to vote on the proposed dissolu tion, is to bo held on Monday, March 21. Hon. S. C. T. Dodd, general solicitor of tho Standard, says the step is brought about by tho recent decision of the Ohio Supremo Court against tho Standard Trust, and by the opposition and legisla tion against trusts In different States of the Union. Tho Standard's action is of great significance. The total capital of tho com panies in the tru.it is $05,000,000, and tho stock, which is hold by over 2,000 persons, ha in the last 8 years paid 12 per cent, a year. Franklin Netrt. A private letter from our old friend and former townsman, John Muenzenber ger, conveys the intelligence that ho and his family are well and a'l doing well. He also says the May, Purlngton A Co. brick yard, in which he is working, has been running all winter, having stopped only twice on account of cold weathor, and that they mado brick when it was 12 below aero. The company aold and delivered in IH91 45 million brick, seven million of which went to the World's Fair, that being the largest contract given out by tho Fair people to any one concern. The demand for brick is very great, so gieat in fact that this company cannot turn them out fast enough to fill orders, and the demand seems to grow rather than di minish. John sonds best wishes to all old friends in this community. Bre'r Smith, iu his Punxsutawney Sjiirit, says: The happiest moments of our lives aro those spent in dreaming in musing over the sunny days that are gone, or building beautiful castles in tho future. Happiness is merely a condition of mind, and a man can be joyful or miserable a ho chooses. What is more pleasant for an old man than to rovlsit in his Imagination the scenes ot his youth, to chase the golden butterflies over the flowery mead, to wado the pond by the mill and feel the soft, yielding mud ooze up between his toes, to fish for suckers in the eddy, and to go to mill on horseback astride of a two-bushel bag of wheatT Go back to the callow days when he sat in tho old school house and looked lovingly over his shoulder at Mary Jane McGlew in her homespun dress and wonder if there ever was another girl so sweet and beautiful. A man's body may become bent with age and his epidermis wrinkled with the lapse of time, but bis heart Is always young, and he ever loves to pick out the sunny places in tho path he has trodden and muse over them. To him it is a consolation and a Joy. Thero is a serene and quiet repose about the happi ness of old age, the autumn of a life woll spent, that youth cannot enjoy. Sensi tiveness to slight and to physical pain becomes duller, and deligbhi are not en joyed with so keen a relish, but thoro is a steadiness of temper and philosophy of gentleness that compensates for all. A LIVELY BLAZE. About nine o'clock yesterday morning fire broke out in ono of C. K. Bradbury's houses on Vine St., abovo the Court House, and in loss than an hour the building was a mass of smouldering ruins. When the fire was discovered the whole upstairs was enveloped in flames, and to save tho building witli the means at hand was an impossibility. The lire ex tinguisher was quickly brought into play on tho buildings nearest the fire, and with excellent effect, for no others were de stroyed although considerably charred. Tho building was as dry as tinder, and with the wind which at times blew a gale It required the greatest exertions to save the house of Nelson Foreman, which stood but a few feet away, aud which had already-caught tire and got under good headway. The "Soda Fountain" did tho work, and can be credited with saving property worth six or eight hundred dollars. The origin of the fire is thought to have been a defect in the flue, with perhaps an extra pressure of gas. The house was oc cupied by two families, Mrs. N. G. Ball, son and daughter, Mrs. Gorman, and the family of Albert Reggs. Mrs. Ball and family were not present at the ou break of the fire, Mrs. Gorman having gone to a neighbors, and hor two little children having gone to school. Little or none of the goods that wore up stairs were saved, but the furniture below was about all gotten out. Mr. Bcggs had lately moved in with all new goods, while all the best wearing apparel, beds and bedding of Mrs. Ball's family were con sumed. Neither had any Insurance. The building, which was the property of Mr. Bradbury, was insured for foOO, which fairly covers his loss. Whig MIU Hearing. All township officers met on Monday at the Treasurer's, Mr. E. Berlin, and settled all accounts of the past year. A slod load of the Hill's vouni; neooln rlrnva down to John McDonald's Friday evening and surprised them. G. W. Osgood bos finished rafting the Newtown lumber. The winter term of school closes to-mor row, Wednesday. The teacher, Miss Flo. Morrison, will be greatly missed iu this community. Beck is msnufacturing his oak timber into stave bolts vt hioh ba ships to Tidioute. We are Informed there will be a party on the Hill during the week for the benefit of the Red Ribbon Begging Society. Parties that cannot reach here to be present are re quested to send all gilts by mail. Dr. t. W. Smith has returned from Pittsburg where be has been attending conference. The hide haulers intend holding a re. union some time soon. Judgo K. T. Louden of Nebraska, with his prospectus, is visiting frieuds, and :o taking orders lor crayou work. TIOXESTA'.S KEELEY INSTITUTE. Our Townsman, I). W. Clark, lilvci Ids Experience to the Derrick Editor. D. W. Clark, of Tionesta, who was In tbe city last week, is loud In praise of the possibilities of the new Keeley Institute In Tionesta. He is certain sure that tho Keeloycureis all that Is claimed for it because he hos Imen to Dwlght, and ha been cured of dipsomania In its worst form. He says that It took him a woek to got to Dwlght, and that when he got thero, tho whisky wo running "out of his cars." They gave him all the whisky he wanted, and began to shoot the bl-chlorldo of gold Into him. In a woek ho did not want tho whisky, and began to feel like a man, ate, and slept well, and got control of himself for the first tiiuo In years. He says that a a result of n hypodermlo Injection, thoro is a tingling all over the body, which gradually disappears. There is also a wavering of the sight that continues dur ing the treatment, but wears off after the cure is effected. He stayed four weeks at Dwlght, and since his return, over a year ago, ho has never touched a drop of liquor, and nover felt the least desire for it. Mr. Clark is a man who is evidently in the best of health. His eyes are bright and clear, and his skin is as ruddy and healthy as any ono could wish. Ue has not taken any medicine of any kind since he re turned from Dwight, and says emphatic ally that thero Is no truth iu tho story that it Is simply getting rid of one habit to take up another. Tho Institute at Tionesta, he thinks, is destined to be a great success. Thoro is fine air and water, good scenery, hunting and fishing. It is secluded, and at the same time easily accessible, and as soon os it is started will undoubtedly bo successful. Derrick, March 14. AS IMPORTANT CAPTURE. An Important capture of a bad man took place at Maricnville, this county, on Fri day evening of lost week. Just one week previous to the above date James F. Mill, Indicted for the murder of Potor Dugsn, escaped from the Butler county jail, with five other prisoners, all of whom have since been re-capturod. Mills succeeded in making his way to Millerstown, thence to tho Allegheny river near Foxburg, by keoping himself hid in the woods. At Foxburg ho crosssd the river and boarded a freight train on tho littlo P. A W. road, riding on an open car as far as Tylorsburg. Conductor William Thurston suspected that the man he was hauling was Mi'ls, and telegraphed ahead to Tylersburg for an officer. The constable there was un willing to make tho arrest, and the car on which Mills was riding was thrown on to a siding. Mills took in the situation aud got Into a box car partly filled with barrel staves. T.J. Birch, a young machinist, was at the station. He and Conductor Thurston together bolted the car door so that Mills could not get out. Tho prisoner attempted (o put barrel slave iu tho door to provent it from closing. Ue foiled, and when the train pulled out be was securely caged and knew it. Mr. Birch was deter mined to soo that the man did not get away, so he boarded tbe train and rodo to Maricnville, whore Deputy Sheriff John Coon was in waiting, he having been noti fied by wire. Tho Sheriff went to tho car where Mills was anil called upon him to surrender. Mills acknowledged that they had the drop on him, and said : "If you give me a fair show I will como out." His revolvor was useless, for tho reason that tho car tridges he had wero not tho proper kind. He ascertained this fact when he tried to I shoot Detective Allen several davs before. Tho door was opened and he stepped out. As he did so he said: "You would havo a hot lime, boys, if my gun wns working." He was kept under guard at a hotel until tho southbound train loft Saturday morn ing, when ho was returned to his cell in tho Butler jail. His trial is set for this week. A roward of fVH) had Issen offered for his capture. Borough Council Proceedings. Council met at Council Room Saturday evening, March 12. Present, Burgess Chss. R.
