RUJIBERGER. 1'ay your taxes before Oct. 3 if you want to vote ia November. General Gregg Las been attend iog a reunion of tbe First Penusj-lva-uia cavalry regiment. With tbo old bors tbe old General was first in war as be now is first in peace. TnE Allegheny Republicans say they bave eighteen thousand majority for Gregg and Morrison. This means that tbe ticket will get seventy-five thousand majority in tbe State sure, and the probabilities are that it will reach one hundred thousand. With Ohio, New York and Penn sylvania electing the Republican tick et this Fall bb now seems certain all element of doubt in regard to next year's contest would seem to be like Taddy's flea "when you put your hand on him he isn't there." "There are no tin plate manufac tories in this country," say the Mug wump papers; and yet the working men of Ohio are banqueting Major McKinley right along on American "tin plate dinners." An explanation of this singular incongruity is request ed, but not expected. Remember your taxes must be paid before Oct. 3 or you cannot vote in November. It is an important matter and requires prompt attention. Tueke is a searching party out for Boss Harrity. lie has gone under cover since the Democratic State Con vention. Bossing the Democratic party is an undertaking of great moment and involves considerable labor. Ferhaps tbe Boss is taking a rest. TnE nomination of J. SI out Fassott lor Governor by the Republicans of New York last Wednesday was a good piece of political work. Mr. Fassett is an honorable gentleman, a thorough Republiuon, a man of unquestioned honesty who has gained tbe respect and esteem of political friend and foe. lie will be elected if the good sense and sober judgment of the people of New York prevail. The New York Press, prints a statement prepared by Secretary Fos ter, showing tbe amount of money per capita in circulation in the United States for every year since 1859. In 1860 the per capita was $13 85, and during the flush times of the war and at its close, the circulation per capita was $20.57. To day it is $23.45 per capita, tbe highest it has been at any time within the thirty years. Every dollar of it is worth 100 ceuts to tbe man who has it, aod the Republican party ptoposes to keep it so. The mistake our Democratic con tempories throughout the country make is in supposing there is still a Democratio party in Pennsylvania. The Harrity machine has taken tbe place of wbat has been known hereto fore as the Democratio party, and that will explain to the confused Democrat io organs outside tbe State why the late convention presented no declara tion of principles. A great political party always has principles and pur poses to declare which invite the sup port of tbe people. The IJarrity machine is a very different thing. ttedprocity Bem'ltts. Already the beneficial e fleets of tbe reciprocity treaty with tbe Latin American republics may be seen. Tbe Consul General of Germany, statioued at San Jose, Costa Rica, states iu an official letter to his Government, that there is "no doubt but that tbe extra ordinary efforts which the industrial world of the United States, backed up by its Government, is making to in crease its trade with Spanish American countries is meeting with success. The iliRlrenee in price, if there is any, is more than compensated for by the at tractive ami bandy get-up of American goods." Frank confession is good for the soul, aod it is refreshing to hear that one foreign attache has the cour age to tell the truth. Germany aod England carry on an immense com mercial trade with its other European countries, with Asia, Africa and Aus tralia. With this trade America does not interfere. It seems only just and reasonable, therefore, that the two American continents, so closely united geographically, should be bound to gether by political and friendly rein rions. It is most obvious that Eng land's protffts against the resiprocity treaty ore all caused by her inordinate jealousy and love of gain. Tit I A L, LI ST. A Word About C'atarrb. It Is tho mucus membrane, that wonder ful semi-IIuid envelope surrounding the delicate tissues of theairuud food passages, tlmt Catarrh makes its stronghold. Once established it cats into the very vitals and renders life a long-drawn breath of misery and diseases dulling tlio seuso of hearing, trammeling tlio power of speech, destroy ing the faculty of smell, tainting the breath and killing the refined pleasures of taste. Insidiously, by creeping on from a simple cold in the head, it assaults tlio membran ous lluiiiK and envelopes the bones, eating the delicate coats, i-auaing inflammation, sloughing and death. Nothing short of total eradication will secure health to the patient and all alleviatives are simply procrastinated Hiillerings, leading toalatiil termination.
