His latest decree forbids the iso of baptismal names of a political character, unless they are taken from the loyal statesmen of Germany. Wonder if he considers Bismark a "al" statesman. The McKinley ill impairs our export trade, does it? ."hen how is it that, whereas the ex ports of July, 1890, increased only $2,950,613 over those of July, 1889, those of July, 1891, increased $8,209, !97 over those of July, 1890. N. Y. Prest. Reciprocity must be a mighty jood thing, or there would not be so many men desirous of being known as its father. No matter who its father WAS thfl fhlM XV HQ in e lanrrnluliini. condition until Dr. Blaine took charge of its treatment; he has mado a man .auWof-it. The McKirtiey bill has scored an other signal triumph in causing the removal of the German embargo against the Americau hog. The Dem ocratic party attempted to judge the bill one month after it had gone into e fleet. Ten months have now passed since the bill became a law, and it is to day a vindicated measure. Our democratic friends need not "sit up o' nights" worrying about who is to be the new Secretary of War. Benjamin Harrison has the faculty of selecting good men to serve under him very highly developed, aud it is he, and not the democrats, that will decide upon Secretary Proctor's successor. Of one thing everybody may be cer tain, the man will be worthy of the Position he is to fill. The nowspapers which have been f t n ob me lence lor months are now jumping down upon Balniaceda, the deposed President of Chili, whom they Lave suddenly discovered to have been about ninety-six kinds of a tyrant, The world always approves the winner, which is but another proof of the truth of the disputed poem "Laugh and the world laughs with you ; weep nd you weep alone." Tiie Democratic conveutioo at liar risburg last Thursday, that ip, Mr. Harrity's convention, nominated Rob ert E. Wright, of Lehigh county, fur Auditor General, and A. L. Tilden, of Erie county, Mr. Harrity's deputy secretary, for State Treasurer. The day before the convention the Harris burg Patriot, the leading Democratic paper of the State, contaiued this warning, but it was not heeded : "If one or both the nomiuees of to morrow's convention come from or Deem to come from any one man, who, as Governor Pattisou has put it, 'keeps his band on the machiue,' or from any combination of men who care only for party coutiol to reach selfish ends the nominee or nominees will be defeated. There is nothing better in a Boss dom inated Democratic convention than in a Boss Republican convention. The touch of the Boss on the most reputa ble man is the burning mark of tho destroyer. If we are to win this year it must be through Republican fcup port. " Next day the same Patriot received the nominations in the coldest possible manner, and thus spoke of the plat form adopted : "The monotonous iteration of ar raignment and condemnations drag ging through the formal resolutions of yesterday's convention, compiled by voluble official desirous of dignifying Lit own work and revised by worthy gentlemen who should have prepared the original platform, bin Ic iulo uoth-ipgness." Democratic Indifference. The Pittsburg Chronicle-Telogrsph is authority for the statement that a prominenr Democrat of State fame, who had once been on the Democratic State ticket, and who attended the Democratic State Convention last week and took part in its proceeding, said, on his way home from the conveutioo, that Wright aud Tilden, the Demo cratic noniiuces, will bo defeated by an overwhelming Republican majority. This is not the only Democrat who is talking in that strain. A delegate from Philadelphia to last Thursday's Democratic convention, a man of in telligence who notes carefully the run of affairs, told the writer that the Democratic State ticket would not have the ghost of a chance, nu l that in Philadelphia alooe Gregg and Mor rison gould get 25,000 majority. Add to this 18,000 in Allegheny county and about 40,000 majority in the other counties of the State, aud it will be seen that the Republican ticket is good fur o.OOOthis year. The Democrats did not make their ticket. It was se lected for them, and they merely came to Harrisbu.-g and ratified the telec lion. It is a fact that they are indiff erent already to the outcome of the campaign aud this feeling grows as election day comes on. Nobody will be surprised it see General Gregg have 100,000 majority over Wright. liar rhburg Telegraph. The effects of the McKinley bill, as shown by the investigations made by the Associated Press, are not proving satisfactary to England. So, of course, the jIcKiuley bill ought to go that is to say, it ought to go on. CHARTER NOTICE. A Word About Catarrh. It is the mucus membrane, that wonder ful sumi-ltuid envelope surrounding the delicate tissues of the air and food passages, tliat Catarrh makes its stronghold. Once established it eats into tho very vitals and renders life a long-drawn breath of misery and diseases dulling the sense of hearing, trammeling the power of speech, destroy ing the faculty of smell, tainting the breath and killing the reliued pleasures of taste. Insidiously, by crtieping on from a simple cold in the head, it assaults thn membran ous lining and envelopes tho bones, eating the delicate coats, causing inflammation, sloughing and death. Nothing short oi total eradication will seenre health to the patient and all alli-viatives are simply procrastinated sufferings, leading toatut.il termination.
