Forest County's Population, At loft wo are able to give the offi cial figures of Foivst county's popula tion, according to the census just taken. These figures show the popu latiou to be 8,447. Tho census of 1880 gave our county 4,385, thus showing a gain of nearly double, or almost one hundred per cent, winch is sorely a gratifying exhibit. The official figures ot the dillerent townships are not yet at hand, but it is scfe to say that Jpuks will show the largest gain, with Howe, Kingsley, Green, Hickory, Barnett, Harmony, lionesta borough and Tiouesta township followiug in the order named. All these districts have made substantial gains and none of them need feel ashamed of their showing. We expect shortly to be able to give tho population complete by townships. Straight Facts for Old Soldiers. Ed. Republican: Permit your correspondent to call the attention of your mauy readers to a few facts relative to the preseut po litical crisis. Almost every mail brings us Democratic speeches, circu lars, &o., in which the Republican party :s severely criticised for betray ing the ex soldier, &c. They tell us the Republican parly has unceremo niously gone back ou us, and have given us a stone when we asked for ureai1. Now so far as thoso promises mude to us are concerned, we must admit have not been fully carried out in some particulars, but in a general way we were not forgotten iu past leg islation. But right here let me remark that we are wonderfully surprised at the remarkable sympathy aud heart aches which just now lacerating the breasts of the Democratic leaders rel alive to us old traps. We know of no way of judging tho future but by the past, says a once noble statesman, and by so judging wo are led to conclude that all l lit 0 accusations against the Republican party fall to the ground as contemptible sophistry. Are these accusations iu keeping with recent past principles and positions taktn by the Democratic leaders in matters re ferring to the soldiers? Wherein all their past history is there a 6ingle act ot itiese leaueis that even retlecls a shadow of encouragement to us that thev are our friends politically? If there is never another a:t or bill con sidered in our Legislature or in Con gress to alleviate the sufferings of the old soldier, his widow and orphans, aud it our names and interests are lienct forth to be a hiss and by-word iu our rich aud prosperous land, we must uow and forever admit that every gen eral act now upon the statutes of our redeemed country bringing to us the few dollars we now receive as at least a partial appreciation of our past lives, have been placed thero by the united votts of the leaders of the Republican party. Nor is this all, my comrades: Every one, of those general acts became laws against the majority votes of the Democratic leaders. Did you ever think of this? Are these things not worthy of a place in our minds when we are about to choose our officials for the future terms? On what grounds can we ex pect to better our condition by burn ing the bridge that has afforded us our ouly safety iu the past? Would it not he much better for the leaders of the Democratic party to prove by their votes on matters of interest to the soiuier mat tney nave belrienced us aud are therefore eutilled to consider ation at our hands, rather than tiy to arouse our political sympathies by condemning the Republican party for what they have been able to accom plisb over the majority of Democratic votes? Everv measure introduced for tho relief of the soldier or his widow for many years has been antagonized by a Democratic majority; this fact we are ready to show up by figures if we are requested to do so. therefore whatever failure there has been in the past in pensions, &o., are due to the leaders of tho Democratic party, nor can they show one plausible reason why they expect the soldier vote. If they can let them come forward and do so by showing that ihey have not opposed us by their votes, and that past legislation has been approved by their votes. Uutil they do so, we are not with them. One tuat Reads, Arnica S Oil Liniment is the best rem edy known for stiff joints. For sale at tiovard s. Stewarts Run.
