At 8:30 a. m. the people of East and West Hick ories were in lino, en route to tho beautiful cemetery at East Hickory. The Sunday seiioois or Dotn piacos were largely rep- n . .l a. 1 1 .Ml. On arriving at the cemetery the services we opened by prayer by our young l asior, j. m. weaver, ine prayer was a sympathetic and eloquont one, and elicitod comments of approval from the O. A. R. After decorating the comrades' graves, the people set to work and decorated every grave in the cemetery, after which the assembly was sounded, and all congre gated together for further business. Tho orator of the day, Rev. C. R. Thomp son, was now introduced and came to the front, and for fifteen or twenty minntes ironi, ana ior niioon or iwouiy uiinn greeted the old boys and all present with words of cboer and comfort. During the hour the business of the placo was suspended, or nearly so, and our worthy merchants handed out their best cigars to the boys freely. Every grave in the comctory was beautifully covered with flowers. The people now fully understand and appre ciato the services of Memorial Day as being set apart for all.
