The resignation of Princa Biwnarck, Chancellor of the German Empire, and its acceptance by the young Em peror William, has stirred op no small amount of uneasiness among Europe ans. But the feeling of distrust will likely die down ohortly, and things will be moving along as though there had been no Bismarck. It ts getting go that the welfare of a nation doesn't depend on any one man. Senator Sherman's new Anli-Truot bill provides that "arrangements, con tracts, agreements, trusts or combina tions" for the prevention of competi tion are to be declare;! "against public policy, unlawful and void." The United States Circuit Court is to have origiual jurisdiction iu suits arising under tho law, and the Attorney Gen eral and District Attorneys are direct ed to commence and prosecute the cases. VV 8 We Will Double Up! The issue for 1892 has been fixed. It will be the struggle o,f 48-38 over Bgain protection "agaiust not exactly free trade but against 1 w duties. The Committee on Ways and Means has deliberately made the issue. It was in its power to advise a much more sweeping reduction than it has done and to add largely to the free list. Such a course would have forced the Democrats into a bold espousal of free trade. But it has chosen conservative methods, and the contest will be fought all over again at the polls. rhila. Inquirer. One more Democratic Congressman elected by fraud was compelled to walk the plank lftst Thursday, and a good RepubHcan, who was elected by a majority of the votes, takes his place. Sydney E.JSIudd, ia the 7ifth Mary land district, takes the place ot Barnes Comoton. Mr. Mudd, however, will Berve but one term, as the Maryland Legislature has so gerrymandered tbe State that only one Republican can be elected hereafter, and he fiom the Hagerstown district. Senator Gorman took mighty good care of bis heelers when be prepared that apportionment bill. Schenck, the emi nent ex-Soldier, Congressman and Diplomat, died at his home in Wash ington, on the 23d iust., of pneumonia. Brother William A. Wallace is coy about announcing bis candidacy for Governor. He ought to know that coyness never won anything from the party be is traveling with. A combination of the William M. Singerly Democratic party with the William A. Wallace Democratio party would make things painfully lively for the William L. Scott Democratic party. It would be a clear case of double-teaming. The new tariff bill would cauie a reduction of about $60,000,000 in the revenues, yet the surplus crushers are not happy. When they set out to raze mountain thev are never satisfied until there is nothing left of it but bole in the ground. The death, from heart disease, of Maior General George Crook, at his room in the Grand Pacific Hotel, Chi cago, on the 21st inst., removes anothe of the brilliant generals and bard fighters of the late rebellion. At the time of his death be was in command of the Department of the Missouri U. S. A. I IB The leading Mugwump newspape of New York admits that it was not satisfied with Cleveland's administra tion of civil service. It is need lees to 6 ay that it is diesaticDed with Harri son, and it ia certainly not going it blind to predict that it will uever be satibfied until one of its pharhees bits in the White House, which will be when T The Willianisport Republican very - sensibly argues that soui f the coun- ' ties of the State are in too great hurry to elect their delegates to the State Couvention. Some of them aie named a year in advance, and many others long time before any issue has been raised or the people given a chance to express themselves. It is required that sixty days' notice of the State Convention shall be eiveu. and there is really plenty of time between the call and the convention to name the delegates. At all events, the business of electing delegates a year in advance ought to be done away with by a rule of tbe party. I'ltila. Press. Tioncsfa Township Autll tors Report.
