It has been questioned whether the Constables elected last sjning under the new law, were to hold for one or three years, but Judge Pershing, of Schuylkill county, has decided that they were elected for a term of ono rear and that all Constables must be re-elected at the approaching spring election. As this is the only legal de cision in tho case, it will doubtless be generally accepted as a correct inter pretation of the act of 1880. Here after, then, Constables will be elected for three years. This fact is a good one to remember in making choice of these officers at the spring election. Of the marriage of Miss Mary McMillan, sister of Mrs. Cbas. Destroy not tho minister by withhold ing thy money from him, for whosoever crippleth his usefulness, shall libido in the outer darkness of Ignorance. Make haste to sottlo with thy pastor and ho shall give thco sermons that will mako thy countenances to shine with Intelli gence that thou bo not as vain men and the heathen. Ask not sermons as a gift for they cost much linio and labor, and thy pastor liveth in a great city, whore his substance wateth morning, noon and night. His children clamor daily for bread, and his wife abidoth at homo for want of such raiment as adorncth her sistors. Ilia heart is daily vexed with bills ; his garments wax old, and his hat becometh a thing uuvccmly to tho eye. Put money in the envclopos that havo been provided for that purpose, or tho pastor wilt surely fail to deliver tho sermon on which thy heart is set. Blessed, yea thrico blessed, is tho man who pays his preacher. Pay him in lawful money for behold tho trade dollar and the punched coin are an abomination and the buttons aro of no account in tho bank. Ask not preaching for nothing, for guile is in thy heart, and your pastor readeth theo like an open book. Ho laughoth theo to soorn, and sliouto'.h to his conference brethren, ha! ha! Tbo fool hath said iu his hoart: "There is no preaching now-a-days outside of the great cities of tho East, and wo will not pay for what we get at homo." Suroly he has been weighed in tho bal ance and found wanting. Behold his folly drietli up tho springs of patienco. Pay tho pa.tor and ho shall riso up and vail thao blessed, for his soul is exceeding vexed with poor promises. The fool payoth his pastor with many promises and sayeth in his heart, "Salva tion's frco." Behold tho man who never paycth his preacher, spending his money for that w hich is not bread. He shall bo east out into outer darkness. Like unto him is tho careless who tryeth to shift tho blaino on some of the brethren. Woo to him for his days shall bo short ened iu tho land iu which ho now dwells. He that readeth theso commandments and heaikcneth unto them shall prosper. He shall dwell in tho laud and havo looil ; but ho that ulmU'th ono jot or tittle of them shall heap confusion against the d;iy of wrath. Lilt a little! Lift a little ! !
