On the latter day the thetmometer is reported to hare registered 89 in the shade. A right smart begioniug for so early iu the season. The few warm days of the past week had the effect to swell and burst the buds on trees of all kinds. The leaves on the fruit trees are about the size of a chipmunk's ear, while the willows and maples are showing up well for a good crop of shade for the hot months. Mr. D. W. Clark of this place is aunouoced as a candidate for Congress in the Vindicator of last week. The Democrats of this district might go farther aud fare much worse for a can didate, acd if we must have a Demo crat to represent us, why give us a Forest county man. We see by a Kittanuing paper that our young friend Juhu L. Kron is aunouoced as a Democratic candi date for Coroner of Armstrong county. While we don't wish the Republicans of that county any bad luck, yet should they make a miscue just this one time and let John blip in, we don't think his friends up here would cry their eyes out about it. From private letter from Dr. M. B. Cook, we learn that he is con- of neeted with Dr. Harrington, one of the leading physicians of Buffalo, N. Under the above caption the Blit zard of Saturday winds up its unrelia ble morning contemporary in this most approved manner: The Derrick publishes what purports to be a letter from one who witnessed the Everhart tragedy and knows the murderers, but is not yet ready to name them. There will be no hesitan cy on the part of anyoue in conclud ing that the letter was written iu the Derrick office not necessarily because it creates the suspicion that the real Everhart murderer is connected with the Derrick office, but because the let ter is so plainly bogus that it will de .... i ceive nnno but tne most credulous. The writer starts in brash enough at the commencement with poor, spelling, etc., but loses the combination toward the end, gets tired or off his guard and gives himself away. The Derrick pays a Cue tribute to the intelligence of its readers io assuming that they will accept such bosh for a genuine letter. "I am a stranger," sys tho wtiter of the letter, "in tho viciuity of the Everhart Murder & am about to make a statement which I have longed for an opportunity to raak9." How very probable the confessional statement that follows! Also how broad the insinuation that the "correspondent" has been pained because circumstances over which he has had no control have prevented him from rcpor' sooner, not to the officers of the 1. , nor to the friends of the murdered women, but direct to headquarters that h to say, to the Derrick. The inference here intended to be conveyed that the legal authorities and the balance of humanity are of trifling importance in comparison with the Derrick, is both pleasant and natural. Inasmuch as the "correspondent's" letter was dated at "Bradford, Mccane co.," we may expect to find in to day's Era some thing like this in a last night special from Oil City : "A. Bradford corres pondent of tho Derrick will say to morrow," etc. etc. And so on ad libitum, ad nauseum, nd "rats." After the Derrick's very clear account of the capture and jailing of one Everhart murderer, who was not arreBtcd at all, we should think it would be able to give the Evtrhart business-(and its readers) a rest for a while ou bogus information and communications. HERE AND THERE. A.newspaper in Us time publishes many things good, bad and indifferent, and it would bo strange indeed were it not to offend somebody occasionally j indeed, the only v.-ondor is that It docs,, not offend everybody, aud some papers do. Bliz zard. ' . Tho importance of publishing a dissolu tion nptiee in any case of a change of firm, says an exchange, in shown by a case re cently decided at Erie. A note was giveu for 2,olK) by a former member of tho firm, and the firm namo signed to it. This was discounted nt a bunk and the maker cf the note appropriated the proceeds to his own uso. Being unable to collect when it was due, the bank sued the Arm for the amount. They showed that his connection with tho firm bad ceased before he mado the noto, but as they had not published the dissolu tion notice previous to that time, aa re quired by law, judgment was ronilurcd against them, This is rather a common matter in business and is a formality which never should be overlooked.
