Dericksou's intelligent cocker spaniel dog, "Skip," met his death in a rather singular way about two weeks ago. His partly decom posed body was discovered one day last week, with the head under a good sized flat stoue, and the supposition is he bad been digging under it, and had dug the foundation out sufficiently to allow the stone to fall on and bold him fast UDtj be -J;ed from starvatiop. From the talk one bears on the streets it would seem that the town and vicinity will attend the Oil City reunion to morrow in a body. There will be scarely less than one hundred board the train here at any rale. The fare from here will be G2 cents for tho round trip. Train leaves this station at 9:55 a. ru. The Sentinel, published at Bath gate, D. T., by R. D. Iloskins, has suspended publication. Mr. Iloskins accounts for the suspension on the ground of insufficient room for two papers, although his paper always gave abundant evidence of prosperity. We hope Rob. may strike "pay dirt" wherever be may locate. Will. Saul, who has been Mr Craig's right bower for seveial years past, has been promoted ta night op erator and ticket agent at Tilusville, we understand. Various reasons are given: the locusts sang earlier than usual ; the crickets began chirping ahead of schedule time ; the dahlia, an August flower, blossomed in July, &c. The fact that a few flakes of snow were seen in the eastern part of ibis State this week, and the really bracing cold of last night may be confirmatory 0f the prophecy of an early fall. After all, it depends most ly on (he weather, thinka the Franklin A'eiw. The Democrats made a good start to harmonize at the convention on Tuesday. National. Doubtless Kepler figures from the staudpoiul of having been so badly left at the preseding primaries, when the Democrats compelled him to take tbe bind teat from the etart and keep it to the finish. His "harmonizing" talk in the face of such a walloping is about as dry and unmusical as the average grave yard whistle, while tho endorsement he begged so bard for was about as hefty as that accorded to Belva Aon Lick wood iu her Presiden tial race. He talks as though be had been of some account in the race. Mr. P. C. Bhcher, of Tionesta towuship, who is one of the losers by the disease which has lately broken out aiuoug tbe cattle of hia neighbor hood, wrote to Dr. Bridge, Veterinary Surgeon to the State board of agricul ture, concerning the disease and re ceived the follow iug reply, which our farmers should preserve carefully : "Your cattle have Catarrhal Influen za. It is contagious and all sick cat- should be kept separate from well ones. Give to each two table spoonsful of the following medicine twice a day. Mix each dose in about a cup of cold water and a tablespoonful of molasses, and drench: Powdered gentian root; powdered ginger root ; powdered car bonate of ammonia; powdered chlo rate of potash ; bi carbonate of soda. Equal parts of each. Mix all well together aud give as above. Mrs. Ella Dinsmore, the woman who was on trial for her life at Clarion last week, charged with complicity in the murder of J. C. Davis at St. Pet ersburg, for which David King has al ready been convicted, was found guilty of murder io the first degree by the jury on Friday last. There seems to be considerable diversity of opinion relative to the justice of the verdict, but since King was convicted upon the hypothesis that a conspiracy was arrauged to inveigle Davis to the Dinsmore bouso for tbe purpose of murdering him, and as it lakes at least two to form a conspiracy, aud as tbe woman was the only proveu accom plice, one can scarcely understand bow the jury could do otherwise than return the verdict it did. If Mrs. Dinsmore is not guilty, on what ground was King couvicted? "The hemlock forests of Forest Elk and a portion of Warien counties, clear through to the Susquehaoua," said Mr. Sam. D. Irwin, of Tionesta, yesterday, "are something immcuse. Few persons realize the magnitude of these forests. There are thousands upon thousands of acres of them. There is nothing any where else io the United States or British America to compare with them, and the timber, I thiok, is the finest in tbe world. Thous ands of trees are four feet in diameter and run op eighty feet without a limb. Some of these forests are so dense that in the midst of tbera you cannot see the face of your watch at midday. These lands are owned largely by Eastern capitalists, and there are bo nauza fortunes in them. There is this peculiarity about a hemlock forest: Sun aid air are fatal to it. Cut a roadway 10 feet wide through one of them aud the next year it will be twenty feet wide : tbe next year it will thirty feet wide. Hemlock thrives on fo g and darkness. Derrick. Stewarts Run. The well on the Joslin farm is down about 275 feet and ready to case. They have trouble gettting water, as they have to force it from a spring 800 feet from their well. The Carnahan Bros, shot the old well on their lease known as the Mc Laughlin well, last week, and it is showing up good. The well on the McNut farm, being drilled by Duck & Bovee, is cased and will be down soon. The timbers are being taken out for a rig on A. J. Ilandy's farm. Mrs. A. M. DeFrauce aud children of Duke Center, who has been visiting her brothers in-law, U. S., and II. M. Zuhniser, has returned home. Wra. G. Bromley of Mercer county, has been visiting his brother J. G., for tue last two weeks. II. M. Zahnieer and wife have re turned from Mercer county, where they went to be present at the reunion of his father's family, who were all present father, mother, nine brothers and sisters, their wives and husbands. J. G. Bromley, J. M. Vanderlio and J. J. Zahniser, under the, firm name of J. G. Bromley & Co., have purchased of U. 8 Zahniser, (Agent for J. I. Caee Threshing Machine Co.) a new thresbiug rig.
