Proper at Pittsburgh. He went with Mr. Proper from Pitts burgh to Little Coon creek, a tribu tary of Tionesta creek, where Mr. Proper had valuable timber lands, and built there one of the Le:t saw rtills of that day. Judge Reck had great, mechanical ingenuity. II re mained at Coon Creek manufacturing lumber until 1855. He then moved to Rockland township, Venango coun ty, Pa., near Gates' Corners on tbe old Stroup place. He lived there four years. Not finding farming conjreuial to bis taste bs moved from there to Ee3ver Valley, this county, and built mills there and manufactured lumber f.r S. S. Holbrook. Iu lc64 he went to Alliance, Ohio, where he remained fiur years. lie came from there to Tionesta with his family in 166, and engaged in the mercantile business here with his old friend Mr. Proper. Sold out bis store business iu 173 to Morris Einstein. Since that time be bis resided ia Tionesta. He served as County Commissioner fr one term; was twice elected Bur gess of Tionesta, and once elected As sociate Judge of the County. He was married on the iO'.h of March, 1-10 to Sabilla Auer, of Start county, Ohio, who survives him. Ol children he leaves three sons, and one daugtter : Wia. R., of Strattoa ville, Clari"0 county ; J. D. W., of Brad ford ; Fiank M., of Marieuville, this couuty, and Mrs. Mary A. Gaskill, cf Alliance, Ohio. Funeral services, conducted by Re. Ilickling, were held at his late home at ne o'clock to day, and the remains were laid to rest ia the Odd Fellows' Cemetery, followed by a large con course of sorrowing friends and rela tives. lie was honest and upright in all !iis business transactions; plain and ! outspoken in his sentiments; he held j his own views oa all questions inde pendently and firmly; be was well aud widely known.
