J. K. WENK, . EDITOR. WEDMSDAY ROSXINO, TiOV. J, 1SSG. Beaver Wins CARRIES THE STATE BY AT LEAST 50,000 ! p y i THAT SAME OLD COON.' a wu ivy -nnvT-vn i The elections in Pennsylvania yes terday show that the Republican ranks are still as solid as a rock, the entire State ticket being elected by iioru 30,000 to 40,000 majority, and it is believed that one or two Congressmen have been gained. A private dispatch from A. E. Pat- ton states that his futher, Hon. John Patton, father of Mrs. M. W. Tate of this plaeo is elected to Congress in Curtin's strong Democratic district, over J. K. P. Hall, Democrat, of Elk Co. This is one of the greatest vic tories of the elections. The result in Pennsylvania is a eplondid victory for Gen. Beaver. A heavy vote was polled and the Repub lican plurality is estimated at about 40,000. McCullough is probably elected ;n the Twenty first district, al though Raflerty's vote was smaller than had been -expected. In Ohio there are large Republican gains, which are especially marked in Cincinnati. Hurd is again defeated in the Toledo district, and the Repub licans claim thirteen districts, conced ing five to the Democrats, and three in doubt. In West Virginia the Republican gains have been bo large that the Leg islature is claimed. Guff's majoiity in the First district is largely increased. In New York city George polled a very large vote, but Hewitt has a plurality of about 23.000, while Roose velt is third in the race, indicating that there was a transfer of Republi can votes to Hewitt in order to defeat George. In New Hampshire there is do elec tion by the people of a Governor, but the Legislature is Republican. In Massachusetts the race between Andrews (Mugwump Dem.) and Ames (Rep.) is very close. California has gone Republican. The returns are not complete enough to indicate the result as to the majority in Congress. Republican losses are reported in some dietricts and gains in others, but there is noth ing to indicate that the Democratic control of the House will be impaired. MAFFETT'S MAJORITY 2,000. From best figures obtaiuable at this hour, it looks as though James T. Muffed walloped Thos St. Clair around the lugs with a majority of about 2000. The Democrats seem coneidera bly elated over the fact that Thomas will not likely be nosing around their future conventions for any more nom iuations. ROBERTS ELECTED. Dr. Roberta of Titusville, against whom a bitter war was waged, has been elected to Congress from the 26th district by a good majority. GREAT &COTT 1 V. L. Scott has slid back into Con gress after greasing up the district well with bull butter, defeating Capt. Mackey by about 600 majority. .IT I.ATEK. Tins (Thursday) morDiog indica tions are that Roberts of Titusville is defeated. Also that Hall of Elk has made the electiou. Bojlo of the 21st is defeated. This is a Republican gain and will offset the defeat of Rob erts. Beaver's plurality is now up to 49,240. The latest indications are that Mor rison of Illinois, aod Carlisle of Ken tucky, the two greatest freo-traders are defeated. It is thought Wolfo's vote in the State will be about 20,000. Ah, There ! JUST AS WE SPECTED ! We've Gone Went and Done it Again ! Visli we had Another Coon Eagle Scream for LITTLE FOREST ! JT - She Elects the Whole Ticket Once More Again ! RESULT AT HOME. Another year has rolled by, &ud another hotly-contested election pass ed among the things that were, and another signal victory added to the Republican list. The weather was everything that the hottest politician could wish for, aod the figures show that everybody, or nearly everybody took a day off to go out and vote. In Forest county the contest was very ao imated, each party being particularly well organized, and fought the battle for all there was in it. The fight in our county centered wholly on the Assembly question. The Democrats went into the contest with greater hopes of success than they have ever had before, and it was conceled on al hands that in Thomas J. Bowman thfty had out their strongest man against whose character and standing not a word could be or was said. The Republicans recognized him as a foe man worthy of their steel. In Charles A. Randall the Republicans had an equally good aod strong candidate in all respects, and so the fight was vir tually narrowed down to a question of politics; whether little Forest should follow her past record in sending to Uarrisburg a Republican, or whether she should break away and tend Democrat. She concluded, by a good majority, to stand firmly by her pre vious record. Both candidates worked assiduously, but with every courtesy and in this respect the campaign was one of the pleasantest, generally speaking, that we have witnessed iu great many years. Had it not been for the candidacy of Mr. Toby, Pro hibitiouist, three-fourths of whose vote came off Mr. Randall, bis majority would have been very materially in creased. Too much credit cannot be awarded to the faithful workers of the different townships iu the Republican ranks those who are never found idle when party principles are at stake ; all did themselves proud, and we feel like pattiog each and every one on the back for their good work. We might mention maoy who did excellent work by narao, but when all did eo well it would bo indiscreet to particularize. It is but just, however, to say that Chairman Shawkey deserves credit for the manner in which he conducted the campaign, nnd for his untiring zeal and efforts iu bringing about such a result, and his party feels justly thankful to him for it. At this writing the indications are that the entire Rppublican county ticket it elected by majorities ranging from 4 or 5 up into tlio hundreds. The way we figure it Dr. Morrow is the only doubtful one, and it is thought he will have 4 or 5 of a majority. Dr. Siggins hangs to that plank like a good fellow, but we believe he will lose his grip when the votes are all in. The State ticket gets a majority of 189, a gain of three over last year, and 99 over the last gubernatorial election, which is certainly very grat ifying and encouragiug to the party.
