Tde Louisville Courier-Journal is nguiu 6houtiog 'Mown with the robber tariff," thus showing that Colonel Walterson bas fully recovered his tuneful voice. The William A. Wallace boom for governor is said to be wholly unauth orized, but it is perfectly harmless. If it were trampling on the grass it might be a different matter. If President Cleveland's attitude on the tariff has been misrepresented there is one m&n from whom a dozen words could easily set him right. The man is at present living in the White Home. Pbesident Cleveland waves the Free-trade flag with all the reckless zeal of a man who, having gained one election under falso pretenses, knows he can not win another, and who, therefore, cares nothing for the conse quences of bis duplicity. Phila. Press. It is just the least bit odd to find Jefferson Davis discussing and defin ing the true relations between labor and capital. This venerable traitor vent to war, it will be remembered, in support of the principle that the la borer belongs to the capitalist. The Democracy is still braying at Henry Ward Beecher for having call ed it "a double-eared ass'" but Mr. Beecher refuse3 to take it back. The eloquent harmony which erstwhile prevailed between the Mugwumps and the Bourbons seems to have been chopped up into feed for the double eared animal. Congressman Scott, of the Erie district, has got himself into a scrape by supporting the bill appropriating $50,000 for a public building at Oil City. His advocacy of the mesanre lias brought a demand fur $100,000 for a building at Franklin and one of similar character at Titusville, with several other towns to hear from. The oil region is up in arms against the surplus. PhWa Press. The Lancaster New Era suggests that Governor Pattison has a treache rous memory, and reminds its readers that in 1883 he visited the Soldiers' Orphans' School at Mount Joy and expressed his entire approval at the arrangements at this institutition. The New Era insists that the playroom and other parts of the establishment which the Governor now condemns are in better condition at present than when ho visited the place three years ago. The Governor, however, may be able to explain this apparent in consistency by pleading that he was color blind on the occasion of his former inspection. Press The Free traders are weakening fast. The latest report emanating from Morrison aud Hewitt, see New York Herald, April 22, says fish may go, salt may go, sugar may go, cotton may go, but they will still cling to free wool aud free lumber. This is beautiful. Picture Morrison and the Old Man of the Sea (as he delights to call Hewitt) clinging frantically to wool and lumber and all else sinking around them. We are afraid vou will have to give up wool and lumber also, It may seem cruel, but Protectionists are fighting for a principle, and will fight aa determinedly for peanuts and sumao as for iron and steel. What is good for oce is good fur all. It it evident that the Democrats in the Ohio Senate propose to stand by the four fraudulently elected senators from Hamilton County to the last. They spurn the advice of Ex-senator Tburman and other sagacious Demo cratic leaders that it would be better to relieve the party from the etigmaof fraud than to retain their illegal con trol of the State Senate, aud will make a biticr fight to this end. In the whole history of Democratic fraud on the ballot-box no more brutal and in famous attempt to swamp the liooest vste of the people was ever made than wa witnessed in Cincinnati last Oc tober and none was ever more clearly demonstrated by investigation. The large Republican majority given in that rity a few weeks ago proves also that the people are convinced of the guilt of the Democratic "gng." Aud yet the Democratic members of the Ohio senate propose to father and de fend the whole monstrous crime. Their ability to furnish campaign ma terial to the Republicans appears to be boundless. There will be a joint Sabbath School meeting at 3 p. m., at the Methodist Church. There will be lectures during the week following to be announced in the fu ture. The choirs will furnish appro priate musio on each occasion. By an error in announcing the above lecture at the M. E. Church it was made to appear that it would take place there. The above is the correct program. Attention, Stow Post. The next meeting of the Tost will be on Weduestlay, May, 5, 1886, at 7:30 o'clock.
