' We are authorized to announce flenry C. Whittekin as a candidate for I ounry Nurveyor, subject to Republican usages. Letter from Rev. Elliot. The many friend of Rev. Wm, El liott, former pastor of the Presbyter ian Church here, will be pleated to hear from him, and from a letter un-e of our citizens under date March 12, at Canal-Fulton, Ohio, to of he I tin sometimes careless about writing letter?, yet I never forget ray friends,' and am always delighted to hear from them, for, as Burns say?, "I'll ne'er forget tho days of auld lang syne." I am pleased to note your town is growing and rejoice in the prosperity of my old friends. I hope riches will not injure them ; a full cap is the bar vest to bold. I am located between Cleveland and Massalon.on theCleve land, Limine & Wheeling li. R., 60 miles south of Cleveland. Our town is not Urge, but thrifty, having a pop' illation of 2000. Ours is the leading Church : its seating capacity is about 400 and we have a nice new parsonage close by the church ; also a large Sabbath School membership well man aged ; a Ladies Missionary Society that lust year rnised 1110. My congrega-1 tion is growing steadily. The farming land in this vicinity is fine. The first settlers here were Pennsylvania Dutch and Scotch Irish, similar to Pennsyl vania. We have any amount of bi tuminous coal, nearly every farm in this county is underlaid with it. Yet we raise the finest wheat in Ohio. I have been here about one year and a half, and on the whole I like this por tion of Ohio very much; the country and the church are prospering. I was pleaeeJ to hear that you bad eome in crease in your church last summer. I pray it may continue to grow iu grace nutil it becomes "Fair as the morn, bright as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners." I would like to see my old frieuds once more, but it is hard for tue to get away from home. In this section we have several small lakes that are very pleasant iu hot weather and good for fishing, but ame is scarce and hunting poor. jive my sincere regards to all the old friends.
