Mr. Citrpeuter, our photo artist, has broken camp at this place and will shortly pitch his tent at Licking ville, where we hope he will scoce a big success. In the list of veterans mentioned in our last issue as having attended the reunion at Erie from this place, the name of 1)r. Morrow was inad vertently omitted. Dr. Towler of Marienville, A. P. Lovely moonlight nights, and bright warm days make everybody cheerful once more. P. S. This item was writtea yesterday before the rain storm and cold snap set in. Under the new marriage law the man who persuades a girl under age to become his wife, unknown to her parents or guardian, can be sentenced to seven years imprisonment in the penitentiary, says an exchaoge. The Philadelphia Call't sugges tion to diuggiets to adopt the prac tice of keeping all poisonous com pounds iu triangular shaped bottles is a good one, and should receive the se rious attention of druggists every where. On Friday of last week John Ehret, sr., of Pine Grove township, Venango Co., committed suicide by hanging himself. No inquest was held and the neighbors assign for the cause of the rash act, temporary ab erration. II is age was About 65 years. Mr. J. O. Scowden has got snugly ensconced in J. P. Huling'g house on Vine St., and takes as naturally to wrestling an armful of eatables up home every evening as a duck to water. They all come to it, Joe. There U about the usual stir in town this week that we generally have on a court week. Some of the jurors have failed to put io an appearance, owing, no doubt, to the excellent buck wheat weather we are having just now. -Mr. E. E. Clapp of President has nearly completed the finest road in northwestern Penna. While the sec tion through which the road runs is a very rough locality, yet the road i.: built eighteen feet wide and reduced to a grade, in no place exceeding two degrees. The best of bridges have been built, and it is certainly a "boss road." Tho period for voters to Register is past, and tho time for paying taxes is at hand. Those who paid do taxes assessed for last year, 1884, or who voted on age (between 21 and 22,) must pay their taxes for 1885, on or before Saturday October 3d if they want to cast a legal vote in Novem ber. Republicans, look after this matter. The entertainment given at the Court House Monday evening was very well patronized and pussed off very pleasantly. For the very limit ed time spent iu rehearsal and prepa ration the performances were quite good, and all who attended seemed to get their share of laugh. The affair netted a nice sum for the M. E. church. Yesterday Mr. A. B. Root came to town in search of a rattlesnake's heart for some medicinal purpose. He didn't have long to wait, for Will Guilon simply took a stroll over to his private den and in less than an hour returned with the heart of a three foot rattler. Rather handy to have a fellow of that kind in town in cases of emergency. Last Thursday Dan. Corrigan's residence adjoining his black-smith shop at Porky, near Balltown, was en tirely destroyed by fire. It is sup posed that the fire was caused by some clothes being carelessly thrown too near the stove pipe. Mr. Corrigan lost nearly all of bis household goods. The residence of Geo. McBride near Mr. Corrigan'e, was badly damaged by Are and water. The Constitutional Amendment which has been running in our paper for the past two months is no go, it seems. There was a mistake in pre suming that the amendment had passed the legislature ; it did not re ceive the necessary 101 votes, but was sent to the Governor who signed the bill. There is a grave blunder some-. where, but who is responsible for it will perhaps appear later. John Polen, Esq., of Hickory, has purchased a Dew locomotive for his logging road. The engine is built by Shay Bros, of Atron, O., and will do the work of twenty teams with ease. Their road will, in the near fu ture, be exteuded into Ross Ruu hol low where Messrs. Wheeler, Dusenbu ry & Co., have remaining large quan tities of the very finest pine, which will be taken to their Stowtown mill. We acknowledge the receipt of W. R. Duou's new paper, The Fredo- nia Chronicle, printed al Fredonia, Wilson county, Kansas. The paper is an eight-column sheet, beautifully printed, starts with a good advertising patronage, contains a large fund of spicy news, and is Republican in poli tics. The town has about 2000 inhab itants and is growing rapidly. We join Mr. Duuo'a large circle of old friends here in wishing him that suc cess which an honest business man de serves, and we cheerfully reeommend him to the citizens of his adopted town and county as such. About thirty persons boarded the Niagara Falls excursion train at this station last Thursday morning, and at each station until Olean was reached passengers were takeu on, but no place furnished more than Tionesta. The train reached Niagara a little late but still in plenty of time to al low all to take in the sights without hurrying. The train was in charge of that affable and pleasant Excursion Agent, Mr. C. C. Lowry, who is the right man in the right place. He was indefatigable ia answering questions and looking after the comforts of his party, all of whom were highly pleased with their day's enjoyment.. The case of Rev. J. M Dewoody, a local minister of Frauklin, who was tried and convicted of immoral con duct by the quarterly conference of the M. E. Church, at Tionesta, on change of venue from the Franklin quarterly conference, and sentenced to suspension from the ministry for three years, was appealed to the Erio an nual conference and reviewed by a committee of the conference, which decided iu favor of reversing the (lad ing of the Tionesta quarterly confer ence. On the same day that the con ference committee's action was takeD, Mr. Dewoody, oil his return from the conference, severed his connection with the cuurch, thereby ending all proceedings and trouble. Blizzard. It is with much pleasure that we anuounce the marriage of Lioas J. Hopkins of the enterprising firm of H. J. Hopkins & Co., and one of the first young meu of our town, aud Miss Marie, daughter of our worthy towns- niau, Mr. T. C. Jackson, and oue of the shining lights of Tiouesta society. The ceremonies were private, none but the immediate relation being present. The Republican extends to the hap py young couple its heartiest congrat ulations on this auspicious occasion, wishing them that joy and prosperity which must bless the union of so well mated a pair. Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins will soon commence housekeeping in Iheir pleasant home, the Van Gieseo house, lately purchased by Mr. II. A letter was received at the post office yesterday, dated at Trenton, N. J., addressed "To the postmaster and public of tho city of Franklin," and signed by John A. Sheaff. In the let ter be says: "I shall be married on the first Sunday in October, and if Mrs. Mary E. Sheaff has any objections let her write to No. 132 Humboldt street, Trenton. I am willing to give my children a commiog schooling. I have wrote to Mary Sheaff over twen ty times since she left me." John seems to be disposed to do things open ly and above board. Mary may be in these parts. If she has any objec tion to John's program, she will please dance to the centre, sound her bazoo, and rake in ber Sheaff. Otherwise John will resume misery with a new partner at the old stand. The youngest child of P. McCul- lough is on the sick list. J. A. Puffenberger bade Salmon Creek good bye last Wednesday, and has gone to the new oil field at Cog ley Run. Howard Lusher has gone to Cogley Run with his team, but forgot to take "Hanner," his mule, along. Some of the boys on Whig Hill are talking of sendiog John L. Sullivan a challenge fur a fight. They are. very "plucky" since they sent the chal lenge to Kellettville. The smiling faces of Miss Hatlie Toby and Miss Mamie Murphy wete seen in town a few days since. Mr. A.
