Tue Democratic party ia this Con gressional districts will mtnopolize tke turnip crop this fall. Mr. Patton is dealiag out the seed by virtue of his Congressional membership. In diana Progress. Has anybody about here been aupplied yet? Come, gentlemen, show up some of those "spoliations" of the State Treas ury, er shut up. . Begin with Baily and go back to the last Democratic State Treasurer. It will be interest- lug. 'Let us have theepoilatiou shown : up fedd the spoilers named. Clearfield Journal. ', llo ! Democrats ! how is this? What business has Governor Patti- bon to leave the Executive Mansion and go off on a junketing tour of the State? If Mr. Arthur as President ; must La censured for leaving Wash- i! iogtoo, can the "Reform" Governor i escape rebuke when he runs away " from ifarrisburg with the"aojer boys." The Washington Post has already ' begun to take the extravagant claims of its party in out of the wet. It cau tiously drops, this: ' Democrats must be content this year with smaller ma jorities than were scored under the : tidal wav.e emphasis of 1882. Happi ly there is a broad margin between those overwhelming triumphs and merely satisfactory victories. The Minnesota Democrats don't expect to eject auybody, so they can 'fiord tw be honest and talk what J ?jTSelieve. They held a convention the'othar day and did not straddle the first fence but resolved in favor of River and Harbor steals, for a tariff for revenue only and against prohibi tion. That's a genuine Democratic platform and they were oot ashamed to adopt it without any wry faces, It's manly at least to have the cour ago of vour coavictions, which can't be said of tne Pennsylvania Democ racy. The bill apportioning the State into judicial districts has been signed by the governor and is now a law. The bill is the same, with but two or three unimportant changes, as that which the Senate conference committee pro posed to tho House at the regular ses sion and which the latter rejected, Had the House committee accepted the bill at the regular session the cost of its consideration at the special ses sion would not have been unnecessary. The bill places Forest with Warren ceunty, which will suit our people first rate. J he mixed up weather ot this year recalls to the old residentera the year without a Bummer 1816. The year opened mildly, but April took a move ment to the rear and wound up with ice and enow. May wai warm at firat and then frozethe life! out of the planta. Ia June ice and snow were common, enow falling in Pennsylvania and JNew York in one day to the depth of three inches. July was marked with frost aud heavy ice and August had ice half an inch thick. A cold north wind prevailed all summer, the fall months were cold and the only decent weather of the year was in De cember. Seed corn in Pennsylvania sold for six dollars a bushel the next spring. The free-trade democrats ia Con gress are evidently preparing them selves for a general Vdiscussioa of the tariff question next winter. Advices from Washington state that the doca rueut room of the House of Represen tatives iu in receipt of ;nany letters of late from members of Congress asking to have forwarded to tlem such docu tnents and bills as may be on liana touching the question of customs ndj tariff in general'. FortuoaUly, tW is a republicau Senate and a republi can President to eland between the business interests of the country and the democratic free traders, and the ouly harm they are liktly to do at the next session of Congress is to air their .free-trade doctrines at the expenso of the country. Meadville Republican. The Republican Party Must Go. The Democratic party, having lst its old principles an acquired no new ones, has beea provided by tho New York Sun and its imitators with a compendious battle-cry which needs no principles iu tho phrase. "The Republicau party must go." Our '- vaciou contemporary repeats tbis sentence with the monotonous regu larity of "Tolly wants a cracker,' which the new Democratic war-cry aptly resembles iu expressing at once an everpresent appetite aud an earn est desire for its gratification ; but is its constant repetition of this slogan the Swn fails to give its readers the benefit of the arguments which in the next campaign are sure to accompany this new version ef the old Democrat- ic creed, the party for the office and the office for the Democratic party. A very brief acquaintance with af fairs will enable our Democratic con temporaries at once to give informa lion to their readers aed point to their new cry after this fashion : The public credit was never higher The Republican party must go. No National debt was ever paid oh" faster The Republican party roust go me currency ot the .Nation was never in sounder 6hape The Repub lican party must go. Manufactories have never before been more extended than under repub lican protection The Republican party must go. The Federal revenue was never col lected with less cost The Republican party must go. The per cent of loss by official de falcation ia the last ten years has been less than under any democratic presi dent from Jackson to Buchanan The Republicaa party must go. A Republican House in the last two years reduced the burdeu of Fed eral taxation four-fold more than the Democratic majorities extending over six years Ihe lvepubhoan party must go. A Republican majority in Con gress passed a law which makes mer it the test of admission to the public service ihe Republican party must go Philadelphia Press. Ohio Camp Meeting.
