We understand that the Greeuback nud Democratic parties of McKean coucty aro frying to make a contract whereby they will divide their votes with candidates on cither side. Duke Centre Enterprise. One of the curious incidents of the joint debase, in Indiana recently be tween the two candidates for Governor, wa3 the Republican candidate holding a light for the Democratic candidate to decipher his voles. Derrick, What has becomo of all this talk about Republican Boldiers and other Republicans going over lo Hancock? Vermont don't show any defection ef the kind, but on tho contrary gives good warrant for a shrewd suspicion that the boot is quite on the other leg. Genekal Weaver, the Greenback candidate for President, says there is no prospect of a fair count or honest election in Alabama, without the in tervention of federal supervisors at the polls. He warns all Greenbackers from falling into tho trap of the De mocracy, which is baited with small offices. General White has invited Mr. Mosgrove to a joint discussion of the political issues of tho present cam paign on the stump. It is believed that the "Old-ruan-a-fraid-to tell-who-he-is-goiiig to-vote-for" will not accept, rs he lacks one very necessary thing to do so successfully ability. Lroohville Republican. Iiie Jew York Tribune having accused Congressman Beltzhoover of Pennsylvania of lying when he denied the authorship of his letter saying the rebel Congressman wero averse to pass ing pension bill3, now invites and urges In m to bring a $100,000 libel suit against itself. He probably will not uo it. lhe evidence against him is conclusive. It is evident that Mr Reltzhoover's career as a statesmau at an end. is Hon. Ras.sei.a9 Bkown, our caudi dato for President Judge is a man ubout sixty-five years of ago. Demo crat. We have the best of authority for the statement thnt Hon. R. lirown is in tho sixty-ninth year of his age, However, it is not tho Judge's fault that ho is in his sixty-ninth year, yet to the voters of the district it may seem to bo a great indiscretion iu a man of his nge attempting to perform the hazardous task nfriding two hoises in the po!:i -2! arena. IvErrnucANs are not the only ones who expect to see Indiana go ngainst tho Democrats in October, some of the more candid Democrats admit that the signs favor that conclusion. When Mr. Porter, the Republican candidate for Governor of that State, visited New Albany last week the most influential Democratic journal of tho town re marked : "There is no denying that the Republicans aro enthusiastic and coufldent. They are peculiarly for tunate in their gubernatorial candi date, and this is in their favor, and they have no internal disscntions and trickery in their party, which is also greatly to their advantage. ioii General Toombs, of Georgia, he who promised years ago to call the roll of his flares at the foot of Hunker Hill, comes out for Hancock in the following manner : "We cannot put in one of our own men this time and have to take a "Yank." That being the case, let us take one who is less 'blue bellied' than than the most of them. You may depend upon it, sir, that 'Yank or no 'Yank,' if elected, the old bays of the South will see that Hancock dors the fair thing by them. In other words he will run the machine to suit than or they will run the thing themselves. Ihcy are not going to be layed with any longer. If you hear any man say that Han cock cannot carry all of the South, you may put him down as a d d fool." The Demoa-at, seeing the effect our Alabama letter is having on the De mocracy of this county, and knowing that unless something was doue it would be the means of changing a goodly number of votes, resorts to its accustomed tactics of "lying out of U," and endeavors to persuado the people that the letter is 'a fraud. We think we'settled that matter when we invited all skeptically inclined to call around and see the original. Wo still Jrold out the invitation, and can convince any honest voter of its genuineness. We will further state that the author wesonoofthe Greenback candidates for Auditor in this county two years ago, and all will agree that Kepler is no wore to bo compared to him in point of truth and varauity or any other way, for that matter thau Old Belzebub is to Geo. Washington. The gentleman intimated in his letter that it would be made very unpleasant for him or any one else were it known that they were exposing the outrageous frauds of the rebel Brigadiers down there, and for this reason cautioned us against giving his uamo. Wo have, mwever, examiuod the election returns of his county and find tha t his asser tion is correct that the county had :eretofore given 3,500 Republican to 1,200 Democratic votes until this year, owing to their having been able here tofore to get fair elections. The editor of the Democrat knows full well that the letter is genuine, and that the author is highly respected by all his acquaintances as a gentleman of truth and varacity, acd all his cries of fraud will avail him nothing. Time was ffhen these stories of rebel bulldozing wero looked upon as campaign stories, but the utterances of such arch traitors as Wado Hampton and Bob loornbs, coupled with the evi- deuce of respectable citizens w ho have loft our own neighborhood and gone down there and viewed it with their own eyes is sufficient for all honest people, and cannot be gainsaid by men who have assisted bountj -jumpers and deserters to evado the law, aiid did all in their power to resist the draft Making it Easy For Him. From lhe New York Tribune. Is early a week ago tho Tribune printed the following letter from Mr, Beltzhoover, the Democratic Congress mao from the York and Cumberland District iu Pennsylvania : HOVKKOK Rf.PHKSKNTATIVFS ) Washinoton, D. c, April 23, lsso. J Dear Sir: Your favor was re ceived. I would most cheerfully in troduce and urge the passage of a bill such as you suggest, but with the present Democratic House pension bills do not have much favor. It has become almost impossible to get con sideration of sueh a bill at all, and when cousidereJ its chance of passing tho House is very remote, and the rebel General who is at the head of the Pension Committee in tho Senate is fctill more averso to allowing any such bills to pass. It would not be at ail probable, therefore, that the bill will bo got through. Very truly, F. E. Beltzhoover. Now this is an entirely truthful letter. It States tllfi oxnnt friers iusr , as every intelligent man understands them, concerning the temper of tho present Congress, under the leadership of tho Rebel Brigadiers. It is only amazing as coming from a Democratic Congressman an official leader in th party that is appealing to Northern soldiers to voto for Hancock. Poor Beltzhoover discovers tho preposterous inconsistency too late, and now de clares the letter a forgery. His friend, the Philadelphia Chronicle-Herald, tells him that this is not enough ho must straightway sue the local paper, Carlisle Herald, for libel for publishing it, and prove his case before election in tho courts. Tho advice is admira ble. But, Beltzhoover, don't sue ira small wy. Tue Tribune published the letter. Sue us. Sue us at once, and get tho matter to an immediate trial. Sue for a hundred thousand dollars. That is the smallest sum any blackguard asks us for telling the truth about him to his hurt. Dou't you sue for a penuy less. And that you have no trouble in proviug the essential facts of our oltonse, we here with repeat it in detail : Vesay you did write the letter. You wrote it to E. W. Curriden of Chambersburg. You wrote all of it, text and signature. You lied, when you said it was a forgery. You lied, knowingly and deliberately, hoping to deceive your constituents. You did not then know that we had the orig inal, and you thought you could lie your wiy through. luere, Mr. Beltzhoover; there s your material for a libel suit. Now come along with it. Let the Carlisle Herald alone. Sue tho Tribune. What Southern Journals Say of St. From the Richmond Wing (Democratic.) That Hampton should have been so sillv and indiscreet at Staunton as to talk of Funderism and even Democ racy as the cause of Leo and Jackson, was no great matter, but that ho should have taken so much pains to deny it, and that, too, with all solem nity, is a matter of grievous magni tude. From Richmond Dispatch (Democratic.) Mr. Yost has clearly made out his case; and Ueneral Hampton was in discreet, to say the least, when he de nied that his remark were correctly reported; he no doubt used language which conveved a meaning that he did not wish or intend to convey.
