The Republictius of PenngylTania Are requested to send delegates, ap pointedjaccotdiog to their representa tionin the Legislature.to a Convention, to meet at Harrisburg, at 12 m., on the 4th day ot February next, to elect delegates to the Republican National Convention, to nominate Presidential Electors, to nominate a candidato for Judge of the Supreme Court, and a candidate for Auditor General, and to transact such other business a roay be breughtbefore them. By orderiof F. C. IIootox, . Chairman State Committee. Samuel F. Baiir, C. L. Mauee, Secretaries. POLITICAL. The Republican County Confmitiee will meet at my . offico on Saturday, Jan. 17th, 1880, at 1 o'clock,' p.' m., for the purpose of electing delegate to the State Convention, and to trans act other business that may come be fore it. It is desirable that each towu ehip be represented. Following is a list of the members of said committee: Tioriesta boro., L. Aguew. Tii.nesta twp., Quint. Jamieson. Harnett, Chailea Compbell. Green, Henry Ledebur. Jenks, J. J. Parsoas'. Kings!ey, W. B. Heath. Hickory, James Green. tJpner Harmony. Charles Griffin. Lower John A. Dawson. Howei B. D. McClure. . L. Davis, Chairman. Tionesta. Jan. 5th, 1880. Governor Garcelox thioke that after the legislature has been once stolen aud the certificates issued to defeated candidates, it is too late to remedy the matter. Tildes has the worst kind of a third term scare. 1 He is determined (hat Grant shall be defeated even ifhe has to accept the nomination on .the Democratic ticket himself- Governor Garciox . appears to think that the opinion of the Supreme Court an excellent guide fur future Governors and Councils, but as for himself, he will stick to the position he has taken. The Rev. Congressman De La Matyr, who at one time threatened' to Become the Greeuback candidate for President next year, appears to have lately fallen into obscurity, and is not being heard from with the frequency of a year ago. In fact the Rev. M. C. is charged in some quarter with having turned his back upon the Greenback party and its principles, but thii is denied in the National View. Governor Garcelon has conclu ded to ignore the opinion of tho Su preme Court, because it is not such u-n opinion' ae he expected it would be or as he wanted. All of which is proof conclusive that his pretense of devotion to tho "mandates of the con stituliou," Was assumed on the same principle as some men assume the cloak of religion to cover their iniquity from the publio gaze. It is clear now that GarceloH started' out to steal the legislature of Maine, and persists in tliat determination at all hazards. We shall see what a day will briug forth. The Maine Affair. j. ue ueraocrats are rejoicing over a . I It 4 1 a wnat tuey can uarceion s victory in securing the organization of the bogus ami fraudulent legislature of Maine rri ...... n . . . . i iney appear co rorgei mat itiey owe that success to the presence of Hou. Eugene i-ale, who retained Ms seat after all the other Republican mem bera had withdrawn, and thus supplied the one member needed to make up t quorum. Perhaps the Democrats wil discover before tbey are much older that the presence of Mr. Hale wai not altogether disinterested, but that it was only part of a prograinmroe the Republicans bad previously detenu incd upon, the more surely to defeat the Gartel ui conspiracy in the end. fk't the Democrat be patieut but a little longer and they may make a discovery of considerable importance to t hem. They secured tho organiza tion of the House, it is true, lit iu mk-r to do ?o they were compelled to perpetrate the additional fraud of electing officer 8 without a quorum, aud that, too, in face of tho protest of Mr. Hale, who doubtless remained ia tho House for that very purpose. All the victories the Democrats of Maine achieve with the assistance of Eugene Hale tbey are perfectly welcome to. Mr. Hale remained in the House by design, "to take notes," as it were. The Republicans may even peimit the fraudulent Fusionists to go so far as to elect a Governor, but that is doubt ful. Should they do ao, however, it will be done only for the purpose of the more effectively overthrowiug the conspirators finally. Legal proceed ings to constrain a fraudulently elected Governor to show by what be holds office, would not be without at least one precedent. The late opinion by the Supreme Court of Maine is suffi cient to convince any one that that tribunal will make short work of the Garcclon conspiracy if the opportunity is presented, as ft will be sooner or later. The great crime of overthrow ing the popular election in Maine, and of disfranchising the people, will not be permitted to triumph. The con spirators may be allowed a little extra rope now, but it will be only that tbey may the more surely bang themselves. Wilkesbarro Record. Chamberlain begins to show the cloven foot in Maiue. He refuses to recognize Laroaon as acting governor, and further says be will recognize no person eletted governor by the legisla ture as at present constituted. It is difficult to discover by what authority Chamberlain has taken charge of af fairs in Maine. It is also as difficult to understand by what authority Gar celon counted in the present legislature. Chamberlain probably ia acting as le gally as many members of the house, and one is just as bad as -the other. The whole trouble comes front attempt ing to pervert the will of the people, and politicians should remember this in the future. -Derrick. BEST 113 THE WORLD l AND SALERATUS Which is the same thing.
