FOR ASSOCIATE JUDGE. LEWIS ARNEIi. FORJDISTRICT ATTORNEY, S. D. IRWIN, ESQ. FOR COUNTY SURVEYOR, JACOB COOK, FOR CORONER. JOHN HUNTER. As will be seen by tho public debt statement for September, published in this paper, the debt was reduced $2,563,752 during the month, and but for the large amount of pension arrears paid out, it would hare been reduced ten millions. So much for Sherman's policy, eh I Tue National wants the GoTcrn ment to buy its own bonds and destroy them, which every sensible person knows would place a largo premium on them. Is it possible that this is part of the greenback doctrine? Do tho greenbackers want the Govern ment to pay a premium for the privil ege of destroying its own paper? We hope not. Wendell "Phillips declines to run fr Lieutenant Governor of Massachu setts on the Greenback ticket. His heart is in the cause, but the balance of his antomy over-rules that impul sive organ. It is conjectured that this action of Mr. Philips will snuff out the Greenback party. What has it left to live for when its most violent defender turns his back upon it. Publio Debt Statement..
