Conver, Editor of the ' Forcsl' Press, died on Tuesday, March 19, 1878, at 8 o'clock A. m., aged .45 years, 1 month and 17 days. Mr. Conver was born in Montgom ery County, Pa. When six years of age he came with his father, George t'onrcr, to Richland township, Venan go county, near Emlenton. At the . age of 16, ho entered the office of E. S." Durban, who was then publishing "the Advocate and Journal at Franklin, and there completed his trade. lie became a very speedy compositor, and in addition to his regular labor, ho is sued a little sheet monthly, called the Town Pump, which is' well remembered to this day by all the old and middle aged citizens of Franklin. At the age of 20 years he went to Kansas with -Geo. V. Brown, and worked with him, we believe, until Brown's office was . destroyed by a' pro-slavery mob. , He then moved to Topcka, .then a small town, but now a thriving city and Cap ital of the State, and established a pa per called the Kansas Journal. This .paper had an existence' of one year, and its publication was stopped be cause of the border troubles, and of threatening letters he was constantly in receipt of. About this time the war commenced, and he came East, enlist ed in the 4th Pa. Cavalry, and served in that regiment until the war closed. . Shortly after this he established a pa- ; per. at Emlenton, his old home, called lb Allegheny Valley Echo, which was not a financial success, and passed out of his hands. He came to Tionesta on Christmas, 1867, and after getting the citizens interested in the project he started the Forest Press, which is still running. Since we have been ac quainted with him ten years he has been a hard-working, industrious roan, never having help ia his office except on press days, and, very rarely, when he has been sick. Some six months ago he was attacked by dyspepsia, and t been : going' down steadily ever .since. It was not supposed, however, by those who knew his condition best, that he would not eventually recover, until two or three weeks ago,-since which time he sank: rapidly until he died. He was a man who had many warm friends, and he will be remembered in Forest County as long as any of the present generation survive. The paper will be issued by Mr. J. E. Wenk, for a month or such a mat ter, and the probabilities aro that ar ' MBgemen',8 will be made to ' continue its publication regularly hereafter. - Just before his death be requested S.. D. Irwin, Esq. to write his obituary for the Pre, and it will appear in the next issue of that paper. We are in debted to Mr. Irwin for moBt of the facts in the above sketch. The funeral will take place from the late residence of the deceased at 10 o'clock A. M. to-morrow. RICHARD It. IRWIN. Died, at Olean, N. Y., March 13, 1S78, JIiciiaed L. Ibwin, aged 32 j caia. He was the youngest son of non. iUchard Irwin, of Franklin, Pa., and aa well and favorably known by ma j in this section of the State as a v oung man of promise. Hia business qualifications were excellent He was !.sJuatrious and enterprising, and had ;any friends ; a man of mild disposi tion; yet firm withal ; of command of temper, open, social, cheerful and hope fuUn character, he formed many last ing attachments. For the greater part of his life he was in the banking business ; lately he was engaged in oil developments near Bradford. He had beeu at Olean just liout a month, and seemed to be on ' e highway of success. The immedi i cause of his death was rheumatism fuced by exposure in that Northern .1 Field. About a week previous to ' Jenth he was down toward Brad examining a large oil lease in u Inch be had become interested, and being exposed to rain throughout the lay, became chilled, which led to his lait illuesg. He leaves a wife and two 1 ' ildren of tender years. In brief it may be said of him, "None knew him but to love him, ' None named Llia but to pra'se."
