EDI TDK. WEDNESDAY MORMSG, OCT. 17, 1S77. REPUBLICAN STATE TICKET. FOR SUPREME JUDGE, HON. JAMES P. STERRETT, OF,ALLEGlIEN V COUNTY. FOlt STATE TREASURER, CAIT. W. B. HART, OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY. FOR AUDITOR GENERAL, HON. J. A. M. PASSMORE, OF SCHUYLKILL COUNTY. REPUBLICAN COUNTY TICKET. FOR TREASURER, WM. LAWRENCE, OF T10NESTA. TO TIIE REPUBLICANS OF PENNSYLVANIA. Headquarters Republican State ") Committee, Philadelphia, V October 10, 1877. ) Our party has suffered an apparent disaster in Ohio. Tha result has only local auj temporary significance. The Republicans of Pennsylvania will be neither disarmed nor dismayed. The great and patriotic record of the party in the past is not to bo obscured, not will it be arrested in its progress until it shall have finished its mission. W. It. DUNN l- Our November contest involves State questions of great importance. A Judge of the Supremo Court is to bo elected. For this position you have presented the faithful incumbent of that high office, Hon. James P. Ster rctt, a candidato of nndoubtcd learn mg, ability and integrity, who has Already fully illustrated theso qualities by long service on the bench. The financial agents of the State are "to be elected, and in presenting Hon. John A. M. Pasraore for Auditor General and Captain "William B. Hart for State Treasurer, you have chosen gentlemen who combine every qualifi cation necessary for tbe competent discharge of their duties, and the rec ord of whose private and public lives is nusullied. In this branch of your interests your party has given the highest evidences of skill and honesty. Since your ad vent to power you have reduced the State debt from 841,000,000 in 1861, to 822,000,000 at the present time, with assets maturing ond pledged for the payment of the State debt amount ing to 88.000,000, leaving a net debt ' of only 14,000,000 to be provided for, show ing an actual reduct'yu under Re publican administration of $27,000,000. , "We have given the most unquestioned assurances that our nominees will go on with the policy of retrenchment aril fiuaucial honesty. At this day not a dollar of State taxes is levied upon the real estate in the Common Health. In national matters it remains to be demonstrated that the equal rights of all have been completely vindicated. It is not yet true that a Republican in the south enjoys all the political priv ileges of a Democrat in the north. The great Repoblicau party, either in this iState or in the cation, will not have closed its labors or accomplished its , purposes until all the rights guaranteed !by the Constitution of the United -States aro practical facts, fully incor porated into the daily life of north and tiuulh alike. 5The coming struggle in Pennsylva nia is of supreme importance with the welfare of the people, who through the busy efforts of demagogues, have been kept uneasy and restless. Much as we deplore the prostration of industrial interests in the land, we remind you that this condition of things is not the result of governmental policy, and that Bngland and the other nations of Eu rope are all suffering in like manner and from like cnue. The constantly iiKTtM2g -aigna erf Jreshly awakened -' ;etity show that the Republican ' ii-lratiofl oAiTtuirs during an im-r'l'-i has beeu prudent and ' ,.. '' ti;uauce of this wise Republican control ho assur ed by your votes the fact cannot bo doubted that the time has nearly ar rived when, by tho laws of trade, the greenback dollar will bo tho equiva lent of a gold dollar, and tho laborer will receive for his day's labor the dol lar which promises its full exchange able value. And thus labor and cap ital will find full employment. To those of our fellow-citizens who have wavered in their allegiance to the party which has been the constant champion of American labor, we ap peal for a critical judgment of tho in sincerity of tho professions of those agitators in tho Democratic party who, claiming to represent labor, have uni formly betrayed it at tho polls. In Ohio, as on former occasion?, the only honest ndherents of the so-called "side issues" were drawn from tho Republi can ranks. Deceived by false protes tations and betrayed by an insincere alliance they have not aided their own cause, but have placed tho garlands of victory at the feet of their worst ene mies. Tho lesson of Ohio should teach mo avoiuance oi so latal a blunder in Pennsylvania. The Republican voters of the Slate must recognize their duty and go pronptly to its, discharge. Wo call upon you to act in your townships and wards. Tho work to bo done is to poll the Republican vote ; it is your work and must be accomplished by active and earnest effort. Wm. P. Wilson, Chairman Republican Stato Com. J no. A. Smull, Secretary.
