For State Senior, W. R. DUNN. (Subject to action of District Conference.) For Associate Judge, EDWARD KEIilt. For I'rothonotarv, Register, Recorder and Clerk or Courts, T. J. VAX GIESE.W For Sheriff, JUSTIS S1IAWKKV, For Commissioners, JOHX RECK, GILBERT JAM1ESOX. For Auditors, N. TIIOMPSOX, J. R. NEILL. For Jury Commissioner, II. Z. TOWNER. For County Surveyor, T. D. COLLINS. A year ago the Pennsylvania Dem ocracy were Id favor of "a steady ef fort to bring the Government notes to jar with gold, and to secure a return to specie paymeuts at the earliest pos sible period that resumption can be efTccted with safety." This year they have turned tables on themselves, and are just the other way. The President is determined that the people of Mississippi slialMie pro tected against the White League bands that have begun their work of terror ism. To this end he proposes, if it shall be necessasy, to use tho troops for a vigorous effort to suppress those vicious organizations, to bring the murderers that belong to them to jus tice, lie will carefully operate under the Constitution, but act rigorously, nevertheless. The New York Democratic Con vention has determined on a hard tnouey platform. It may now be a question which is to be considered the real Democratic doctrine, that of New York, or that of this State. The New Yorkers are consistent, but those of this State have nothing sufficiently definite to make any palaver over. It is evident thut the Democracy of Pennsylvania are merely seeking to trick the people into their support, but if a mystified platform and rotten candidates serve this purpose success fully, wo underrate the intelligence of the American people. Gazette. The following are the second and third planks in the Nebraska Demo cratic platform adopted by the State Convention on Friday lust: Thnt we are in favor of a sound cur rency, coin or its equivalent essential, and stability in business and a restora tion of prosperity, steps toward specie payineut and no step backwards. That we deprecate all attempts to ' commit the Democratic party to a sys tem of paper money, based upon unconstitutional exercise of federal ' power, as a crime against tho common welfare and wanton violation of a car dinal article of the Deinocratio creed. The Jouhetowil Tribune says: "The nomination of Victor E. Piolette to tke office of State Treasurer was a fitting finale to the doings of the Con vention which attempted to be on both ides of the financial question, and which nominated Cyras L. Pershing for Governor. He is somewhat noted as a legislative rooster and demagogue in Bradford county, better remember ed as Charles K. Ituckalew's right hand roan in the Columbia county drafts riots of 1864; as tive President f the Fishing Creek Cotit'ederacy.and, in short, a traitor whom nothing but the misplaced leniency of the Govern ment kept from spinning at the rope's end at the close of tho war." Honest toil as n farmer has not soil ed the bauds of Piolette, md he can't control or deliver the Grange vote to the Democratic party. Democracy is not u unit. The Erie platform .declares that the hard limes are due to the policy of contrac tion, adopted by the Republican party. Tho New York Democrats are equally positive that the "present depression of bus&iness is caused by the reaction from the unhealthy stimulus of an ft- iTssive, (lepreciuted ami irredeemable currency." Those at Erie taught that a gradual expansion of the currency will lieal the business ills ot the couu try, while those of New York declare it would bo "worse than iuellcctual to revive prosperity, for it would inter runt the healing process- of industry.' The lirit-ites, through their Chairman, 1 Indies, tauifht that ifreenbacks are luoury, and fulfill in themselves all urnmists ot resumption mo rsew Yorker flri-hire "First, gold and sil ver the only legal tender, no currency convertible with coin. Second, steady steps toward specie payments, no steps backward. Third, honest payment of debt in coin and sacred preservation of public faith." The Democracy of New York have at least the merit of consistency and honesty. The Democratic Platform. The New York Herald comments as follows on the platform adopted by the late Pennsylvania Democratic Convention : The platform is an insult to every American who believes in the sacred nuss of the national honor. It is a platform which means repudiation, he- cause the policy.it supports is a policy mncu iobkh inward repudiation, it will so result unless the good sense of the people should defeat it. Instead of uniting with the Democracy of iNew lork and the East, who have shown themselves in every trial reso lute in support ot the national honor, who stood by the Union when it was threatened by treason, Pennsylvania Democrats, under the leadership of the worst men in the party, tro wan dering after the wild, hare-brained lanatics of Ohio and the West. When we look over the names of the men who controlled this convention we are painfully reminded of those Pennsyl vania Democrats who, dnriuir the war. did so much to bring disaster upon the party and dishonor upon its record. These men are political tramps and vagabonds, it is btting that a resolu tion nhich practically means repudia tion should be championed by that noted tramp Francis V. Hushes, of Schuylkill. If the Democracy of Pennsylvania had been true to the proud legend of their ktate, that it is the keystone of the Union, they could nave dono more toward reviving na tional credit, strengthening the confi dence of foreign governments in our financial integrity, aiding tho admin istration in luudiug our debt, aud, in the end, bringing to our burdened peo ple the sure blessings of specie pay ments and a sound currency, than any other State in the Union. But tho old Bourbon copperhead politicians, the tramps and vagabonds who flour ished during the war, have taken pqs session of the party. A platform was adopted that is au insult to every American : for Americans care little about wlut Pennsylvania thinks of the management of the Stato Treasu ry; tbey care much about its record upon inflation. The Next Election. The following points iu regard to voting should bo borne in mind, aud attended to at once : ' The New Constitution - forbids all persons from voting unless they have paid their taxes at least one month be fore the date of the election. No one of foreign birth can vote uuless, in ad dition to the above, he has been' nat uralized a month previous to tfce elec tion. Friday, Octobor 1st, is the hat day on which they can pa; taxes. Friday, October 1st, is the last day for taking out naturalization papers. Each of these important duties can be performed auy time before the days nientioued. Let our friends see to it that the matter is attended to before it is ton late. THE BOOT & SHOE STORE OF TIZDIOTTTIE, IF.A.! Second Door East from Depot Street.
