A meeting of the owners tlio
Oil Creek and Allegheny River con
solidated seven per cent, bonds, the
May interest on winch was defaulted,
was held in Philadelphia on Toosduy.
It appears that, by the terms, of the
mortgage under which the bonds were
issued, one-fourth of the bondholders
can, within three, calendar mouths of
the non-payment of the seroi-nnnnal
interest, empower the trustees to take
charge of the road, nnd a resolution
was offered and adopted requesting
those officers at once to institute tlio
legal proceedings necessary to bring
the road into the market for the bene
fit of the holders of the consolidated
bonds. These securities amount to
81,000,000. Most of the bonds are
held in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh Com
mercial. .'
The resignation of Sect etary Rich
ardson, and the appointment of Gen.
Bristow as Secretary of the Treasury,
seems to be accepted favorably, as re
gards the fact of change. Yet the
new appoiutee must win confidence for
himself in actual service. Ho is n
lawyer, not known to be slutted in
finance, and yet may succeed in mak
ing a good Treasury official. It is a
singular fact that skill iu the manage
ment of large fiscal concerns of a pri
vate or even public nature, does not
Always prepare for the administration
f the Treasury Dupartment of the
United States. On the other hand,
inexperience) is not fatal to success.
Cliase, Bi.uUvell, or Fesscnden, were
not practical financiers, yet ihey were
good financial Secretaries. McCulluch
was thus skilled, and was a poor Sec
retary. So Bristow may bo a success.

The Camp Meeting at Chautau
qua Luke, this year will be held on
Fair Point, commencing July 7th and
continuing one week. Tlio Camp
Meeting Association lias tendered the
use of Its grounds at Fair Point to the
National Sunday School Association,
nnd the nest meeting of the organiza
tion, will bo held there iu August,
opening on tho 5th, and continuing
GfUen diys.
Sunday Schools of all denomina
tions from all parts of the country
will take part and many eminent men
will be present, among whom are
Henry Ward Bdechcr, Bishops Simp
son, Havens, Ames, Janes, Kev. T.
DeWitt Talmage, 4r. Hatfield, and
Chancellor Mitchell, of Syracuse Uni
versity. It ii a great enterprise, this
bringing together of the Sabbath
schools of the country, and will cost a
large sum of money, but earnest men
have the work in charge aud will car
ry it through to success. Surely no
better location than Fair Point could
have been chosen, its large nnd beauti
ful woods, its easy access by both land
nnd water, extending far out iu the
clear pleasant water of Chautauqua
lake, with an atmosphere healthful
and invigorating, it seems the placo of
places to bring tho children iVorn the
hot towns and cities to spend a few
days aud enjoy the country in its most
pleasing aspect.
The following items we take from
the Tidioute Journal:
On Wednesday night some party or
parties, as yet unknown, entered tho
premises of J)r. F. A. Shugurt and
stripped the bark off from five of his
best apple trees. Plie bark was torn
