W. R. DUNX ..... EDITOR, WEDNESDAY I0R5IS0, SEPT. II, 1871. REPUBLICAN STATE TICKET. For Supreme Judge ISAAC G. GORDON, of Jefferson County. For State Treannrer R. W. MACKEY, f Allegheny County. REPUBLICAN COUNTY TICKET. For Assembly, F. E. ALLISON, (Subject to District Conference.) For Commissioner JAMES K.CLARK. For Auditor O. JAMIKSOX. For District Attorney (SAMUEL D, IRAVljr. For Coroaor MATTEL. For Jury Commitslonor WM. PATTERSON. The Assembly Question Again. W. R. Duns, Editor, Dear Sir: Sev eral weeks ago, I noticed an article in tho Forest Reih ulican, copied from the Oil City Derrick, in which the writer of the article fcdicted a "free fight" between the several candidates for Assembly, viz: Winaus, Williams and the Republican nominee. Since the announcement of Dr. Allisuu fur that position, some of ,.lie"unterrifiod" have become a little shakey, and it is now asserted that cither Wiuans or Williams must leave the course. If Dr. Winans conferees aro of the "weak kneed" Democracy, of course they will desert him at the rootst criti cal moment. Would this cot bo gay for the friends of Williams. But we think it would be rather humiliating for the friends of Winans. It has been alleged that the chairman of the Dem cratic county committee has matters "all fixed." We aro told that the frieoda of Dr. Wiuans, who gave him a fair and square nomination, are anx iously awaiting to learn the "fix." There may be arbitrary powers grant ed to chairmen, yet common courtesy Bhould be extended to the voters who supported the Dr. at the caucus, and placed hira on the ticket as ihtir fa vorite standard bearer. But "let 'era fight it out If it takes all summer." Com. ODD FF.l.I.OWSUir. The Grand Lodge of tho Uuitcd States met in the city of Baltimore, Sept. 15. The attendance, is numer ous, and representatives are present from every jurisdiction in the United States. The Past Grand Sires of Massachusetts, New York, California, the District of Columbia, and Past Grand Sire James B. Nicholson, of Pennsylvania are present. This is the Legislative Head of Odd Fellowship, and among the important questions that will be presented, some of which aro decided, are the llow iug; That of merging the encamp ment and Lodge Branches of the or der ; arranging the scala of benefits to correspond with the fees and dues paid in the subordinates ; changing the title of the supreme head of the older; changing the official terms iu subordinates from six mouths to one year, which was decided could not be done, and prescribing uniform Lodge regalia. At the Re union of the Armv of the Cumberland at Pittsburgh, speech es were made by President Grant, Gens. Sherman, Sheridan, Hooker, McDowell, Baird aud Governor Hart' ranfl. It was an exceedingly brilliant affair. The oration of Durbiu Ward, Lebanon, Ohio, was a maslerpicco of soldierly scholarship and manly pat riotism, nis appeal for Amnesty elicited loud applause, and his noble suggestions for the Centennial deserves to be treasured by all true Americans. It is this: "On that natal irtoru let the South and the North sit down to gether on the old benches in Inde pendence Hall, and take the sacra ment of reconciliation. Let us of the Uniou armies invite our old secession foes to meet us at that ancient fune of freedom, and there iu the holy ground consecrated to brotherly love bury our dead strifes eternally out of sight." If the assemblies of civilians would evince the same spirit as theso "men of war," the millenium of politics would not be far distant. Clearfield was excited over a (6,000 Rue one day last week.
