"Tnitow Phybio to the Dogs." The Graphic recently gave an illustr. tion of the new chromo issued by the Murray Hill Publishing Company, 129 East Twenty-eighth Street, from Bispbara'a painting "Throw Physio to the Dors." The suhiect ia a little girl pbyBicing various spccimcus of the caoiuo race. The scene is a laugh able one, and the different attitudes of the dogs are exceedingly pleasing. I've been calculating that every one of these birds has cost me above fifty pounds." "Faith, your honor," said Pat, throwing a dash of humor into thesympathizing simplicity of his reply, "I'm sorry for that; but it's lucky there's no more of them." A country minister of "limited ca pacity" recently married for a second wife a widow of some property. Be ing an ardent servant of Mammon, a former neighbor asked him if he did not do well by the second marriage. "Oh yes, indeed," he said, with anima tion; and then, as an expression of reverence stole into his face, he added, "and what is very remarkable, the clothes of my wife's first husband iust fit me." A man living in Prospect street seal Jay, Brooklyn, went home the other night in a bad temper. His sup per wasn't ready. This time he frankly writes to him : "You are a small pattern of a man a vulgar fraction of human na ture reduced to its lowest toims." Hill is a Southerner by birth, a proud, high spirited Southerner, but up to this time he hasn't so much as set Brown low's barn on fire. Sixteen years ago, a Carolina father, who knew the virtues of the rod, thrashed his big boy, and sent him out to hoe corn. "You seem to be a little hoarse, my love," remarked Simpkins to his spouse, when she had a cold. "A lit tle horse, indeed 1" she replied, mis liking the personal allusion. "Better be that than a big mule." A Judge at Montgomery, Ala., re cently interrupted a very flowery young orator with "Hold on, hold on, my dear sir! Don't go any higher 1 You are already out of the jurisdic tion of this court." A gentlman observing a young lady earnestly at work knotting fringa for a petticoat, asked her what she was do ing. "Knotting," replied she; "pray, can you knot ?" "I cau not, madam," he answered. Sylvanus Cobb, Jr., of Ledger fame, passes fourteen hours of the twenty, four in sleep.
