McFetridge, of Oil City, will preach in the Presbyterian Church, iu thii place, next feunday, 23J io.st., morning and evening... , The ferry-bout is now running , regularly, end station house is being oased a litllo of its overplus of freight . The recent sefl weather has made the roads about town quite muddy and teaming is hard on the horsesas well as the lungs of the drivers. JJext week we will present or send ut bills to all whe owe us for adver tising and job work for the first quar ter of T3. We shall expect the cash ia every instuuee. T D. S. Kuox is very busy just oow, manufacturing stoves for raits. He will have plenty of thrin on baud by ", the time thoy are wanted, and will sup ply them at low rates. We have been blessed with a few -days of rainy weather, which, have set jobbers to working like beavers to .get their lumber iu shape to run on the first water. Tbo busy season will soon be here. Quite a number of fUh were taken ;Yroni the river last week, and we thick that nearly every family in town bad a, "mess." The fish were mostly suck- -ers, however, and as full of booes as ever. Our town is fast filling up with raftsmen, who come in anticipation of n early flood. , The hotels each have their share, and can yet accommedate 'more. These are tbe tiroes that it is a pleasure to keep a hotel in Tionesta We were not infermed that there were to be services iu the Methodist church on Sunday last, and conse' ouentlr eave uo notice of the fact. If uy one will keep us posted, we will jnake the announcements free gratis. The treutiug season is at band, and a soon as the first flood is goue the streams will be fished high and low for this, the daintiest of fish. We fondly hope that they may be as plen tiful as the roost enthusiastic fisherman ' could wish. Work wat commenced en T. B. Vobb's house, on the corner of Elm and Helen streets, on Monday morn ing last, Hillings fc Woodington hav . ing the job. The houEe is to bo com fletely overhauled, and rearranged, and when completed will bs a very ecmfortab!e residence Monday afternoon last, Hunter, having become tired "paddling his own canoe" to and fro across the river, con cluded to launch the ferry-boat. Now this useful craft had been tied high up the bank, during the repeat break-up, and when the waters rolled back to their .proper channel, the boat was left high and dry on the bank and shore ice. Several men and-boys devoted their energies for a couple of hours to tbe business of shoring the boat into the water. Props were sot, levers rig ged, aud power in Several shapes ap plied, all to ho purpose ; the craft re fused to budge. At length some one procured an oar-stem; which was about seven inches through, at the butt, and twenty foel long ; they got a huge pry with this, and all together give a big lift, and started the boat But the oar stem went, too, taking a side sweep, Bill Killmer held on the oar-stem, for an instant, and was deposited in the mud about twenty feet from the start ing point. The oar-stem next took Jo Saul alongside the head, causing him to embrace his mother earth, then struck George Hauler just above the heels whereat he described a half circle, alighting en his head a ad shoulders. The boat was launched, nobody was serieusly hurt, and the beys all de clared they hadn't seen so much fun since last cainp.meetiog. The Harrisburgh Correspondent of tho Pittsburgh Commercial makes out an apportionment of the State into Congressional Districts, which he says, will not differ materially from that to be reported to the Legislature soon. This apportionment puts Forest in with Centre, Union Clearfield and Elk Counties, and will, according to the vote on President in '68, make the District hopelessly Dumocratic. We have been subjected ta the tender mercies of a Democrtaic Assemblyman and btate senator lur many years until Wt full, when wo were fortunate enough to elect a State Senator; and a Republican Congressman was the on ly District officer we had a chance of helping to elect.' All this while 'For est has gone nu giving Republican majorities with a pateince that is to be wondered at. And now they propose to put us into a Democratic Congres sional District. We hope Senator Mc Clay will use his influence to keep us from this calamity. Frauklin has lately been the scene of a terrible tragedy. On Saturday morning last, Thomas F. Anderson, Cashier of Lamberton's Bank, after mutilating the books of the bank, and setting en fire $500,000 worth of gov ernment bonds, committed suieido. The burning bonds were discovered by a daughter of Mr. Lroaber ton's who promptly dashed a quantity of water upon them, extinguishing the fire, Mr. Anderson had been in the employ of Mr. Lamberton for twelve ears past, and had his employer's confidence to the last. The deod, which was ac complished by means of a pistol, was committed in the presence of his wife, who has not yet, and may never fully recover from the shock. Several the orics are afloat as regards the cause of tbe rash act, the uiest charitable of which is that Mr. Andereou was insaue, The coroner's jury are still at work on the evidence iu the case, holding their meetings with closed doors. The bank will not suffer materially, as the fire had not time to nearly destroy the bonds. At last we believe that spring has arrived. It has had a tedious journey aud a great many di3culties to coo tend with, but has overcome all aud is uow with us. We welcome it with gladness, alloyed ouly by the thought that "epriug fever" will soon begin to claim its victims, and we're afYaid we will get it. A good deal of tbe shore ice in the river has gone out within a few days past, but enough remains to cause considerable disturbance, should It all start together. A few more days ef such weather as wo are now enjoying, however, will render the ice compara tively harmless. On Friday next the voters of Oil City will vote on the local option ques tion.- It is uncertain which aide will carry. Both parties have been strain ing every nerve for some time past. and doing their utmost, each to defeat the other.
