On Saturday lant Jacob Ke(ler
came pretty near losxing his now resi
dence, which has just been completed.
About 4 o'clock p. m., Alex. Henne,
who had charge of the furnace which
heats tho building, entered the cellar
of the house, and found it so full of
smoke that he could sen nothing. He
rushed out and over to Black's Hotel,
and alarmed some men there, tolling
them ha believed Kepler's house was
burning, but he could not find the fire.
Two or three men went over with him,
and one of them wf.s feeling around
back of tho furnace and Ins hand
eama in contact with the fire, which
was making its way through a sill, im
mediately behind a flue leading from
the furnaco to the roof. As soon as he
disturbed it, the flames burst out. Ho
called for water aud soon extinguished
tho fire, though on.e of his hands was
badly burned. Had the fire not been
discovered for fifteen minutes, 'the
building would probably havo bceir
burned to tho ground. It will bo fix
ed so this experience will not be apt
t bo repeated. Now will our citizens
see about getting a fire engine? Let
us not wait uulil thure is nothing worth
saving Kit.'

Ularion, and who served two years iu
Congress, from the 20th District, now
living in Pari., Ky., has been ordained
Minister of the Baotist Church iu that
place. We remember Rev. MyYrs as
a man who told some of the best sto
ries on ihu stump, w hi0 ie was can
vassing the L'Oth District, of an imy
stump speaker wo ever heard. His
many friends iu this section will wish
him well in his new undertaking.

Rev. Milford, of Callensburg,
preached in the Presbyterian Clmrch
on Suuday last, but owing to some
misunderstanding he was out announced
in either of the papers. He said that
tho Presbytery had mii.lo arrang--
nients to. furnish supplies for this
Church, once a Jiionth until the next
mooting of Presbytery, when it is prob
able that wo wif 1 have a minister sta
tioned here.
