About 4 o'clock p. m., Alex. Henne, who had charge of the furnace which heats tho building, entered the cellar of the house, and found it so full of smoke that he could sen nothing. He rushed out and over to Black's Hotel, and alarmed some men there, tolling them ha believed Kepler's house was burning, but he could not find the fire. Two or three men went over with him, and one of them wf.s feeling around back of tho furnace and Ins hand eama in contact with the fire, which was making its way through a sill, im mediately behind a flue leading from the furnaco to the roof. As soon as he disturbed it, the flames burst out. Ho called for water aud soon extinguished tho fire, though on.e of his hands was badly burned. Had the fire not been discovered for fifteen minutes, 'the building would probably havo bceir burned to tho ground. It will bo fix ed so this experience will not be apt t bo repeated.
