To the Democratic aud Liberal Re
publican County Conventions of
Crawford County :
Gentlemen: I observe that your
Conventions at Mcadville, on Tuesday
lust, placed me in nomination for Cor
oner in this county. I am an aspirant
fur no office, and this nomination was
conferred on me without my knowledge
or consent. I entered in good faith
into the Republican primary election
in Juno last, and feel myself bound to
support tho nominees then selected,
not only on party grounds, but because
they are my personal friends. I wish
it. distinctly understood, moreover.that
I Will aCl'Ollt Iin UOInillritinn ulintairav
from the Democratic and Liberal Re
publican coaliton. I have always
been, and now am, a Republican, aud
a supporter of tho principles and
measures of that party. I have been
an admirer of Horace Greeley and the
Tribune as an exponent of Republi
canism ; and though inclined at first
to support him on these grounds, yet
I am free to coufiss that I do not liko
the developments of the campaign,
and his affiliations North and South
with men who were open enemies of
the country in her hour of trial, or
sympathizers with tho rebellion.
1 therefore respectfully decline the
nomination you have tendered me.
Truly yours, J. L. Dunn.
