Gordon, Esq., of Elkhart, Iiid., ha our thanks fur file of the Elkhart Review.'- They represent that place n. improving very rapidly. The people at Beaver Valley be lieve i practical ly observing the rules of multiplication. The new "arrivals'' there have been numerous lately. May they all grow up to be true men uud pure women. Judgo Dale was in the late acci dent on the P. cv E. Road and got jam mod up a little. This is the second time he bus been unfortunate on that road, and be will probably give it a wide berth hereafter. V. V. Mason and daughter were not injured. ' .. A couple of Italian boys, carrying a harp uud violin, paid our place a visit last week, and picked up more loose change than we are ever able to accumulate except on court weeks. This is a good place fir the apprecia tion of musical talent. The Auditors' Report, which shows a marked improvement in our County finances, and a few words from Sheritf Davis, tak.. up a good deal of reading matter space this week. We are late with our paper for the same reason. We hope licuaf'tr to be out .on time. We are sorry to record tho fact that Mr. Grove's well at Sandy has jturned out a dry hole. Mr. Grove has tiet with many back-sets in bis oil peratiotis, but is one of the hardest !tuen to discourage w ever met. Several dry holes had been put down, and altogether pperaiors were feeling a little shaky, (several wells were down, ready to test, ant the results are looked forauxiuus ly. The ideighing has been as good us any one could wish for soiuo week's past, n ml may be for some time ycl, .but this morning a rain is falliug, which, if it continues long, will des troy our sleighing and ice bridge. The woodc.huck, if he was attending to his business on the lil inst., saw. his halow several times, and i& our snow goes off now, we shall n future place no dependence in woodehueks. We have hitherto, owing to a press of business, m:;lvc-Lii to notice ,he Tidioute Daily Commercial, which has come to our ofiiee since some time , n the latter part of JanuifTy. It is a spicy, lively sheet, and seems to be well patronized. It seems to us that Tidiuiile is hardly large enough to hold out inducements for a daily, but the proprietor of the new concern has best wishes for his success. A sleighing parly from Nchratkn. came into Tionesta last evening, and proceeded to tho Holmes House, where thpy were met by a largo delegation from this place. A violinist was pro- . cured, and 4 little dancing was indulged which lasted into the "piiiu' hours." A splendid time was had by all who were present, and everybody was satis fied that u company made up of Neb raskals and Tionestians cnu enjoy themselves under any and all circum stances. Kd.J Mil Editor. I see petitions are in circulation, asking the legislature to passao aclauthitruing the Commission ers of Forest County to erect a bridge nccrnss the Allegheny River at TioneST ta, and to issue bonds at eight percent, interest to pay for the erection, the bonds to be pairt out of the lulls when gathered. It is observed that the County is not supposed to raise the amount to meet tho b mds and interest from taxation, but they are to bis paid out of the tolls. How long will it take the county to collect the requisite amount of tolls to meet the payment' of these bonds 7 and how will you get capitalists to invest ii. these bonds, unless the county makes herself liable for their payment at some certain, fixed time ? Perhaps the proper answer to these questions would discover that tl is bridge will have to he paid for iu taxes levied on the people, just like other county bridges are and just like coun ty bridges should be iu evry ease.
