The Pittsburg Post says: Great combi nations and remarkable schemes are be ing fathered by the competitors of tbe Pennsylvania to obtain a shorter route between New York and Pittsburg. Ibis co.npaiiy will then be in a position to tap tbe coal fields. The route surveyed leads through a itortion of the Dunuings Creek Valley in Bedford coun ty, and following the face of tbe moun tain for about 10 miles, strikes the sum mit at a point near Daley, Somerset coun ty. There bas also been surveyed a route through Pa via, which, it is claimeiL is a most excellent one for crossing the mountain. Li. A Complete Refutation cf tha Fertisteatly Circulated Lie at to the EUposi tion of tail Fond and as to the Amount ia the Chairman's Hands. While tbe party rules do not provide for publication in the newspapers of a statement of the receipts and expendi tures of the primary elect ion fund, nor was such a course contemplated by their framers, it bas become necessary in order that tho good name and fair fame of the party bo not tarnished by the w ilfully false and malicious statements as to the misappropriation of ibis fund, made re peatedly both by word of mouth and in public print, that such publication be made. Kver since the present rules were adopted, so far as the writer's knowledge goes, and he thinks it covers that entire period, the County Chairmau's accounts possibly with one exception were each year carefully audited and certified by tbe Auditing Committee and the result announced to tho members of the con vention of Committeemen at their annual meetings. These reports have always been kept by the several chairmen and every Republican in the county has been and is at liberty to inspect them. During Ex-Chairman Biesecker's five years' of service in that position every peuuy of this fund was paid out by check and an itemized voucher was taken for the same, aud we presume his predeces sors exercised the same care and caution. When bis successor was elected he band ed him a check for the balance in his hands, f l7.l, and took bis receipt for the same. These facts, as stated, are per sonally known to a very large number of the members of the party, as they have seen and examined the audited reports, aud all who have received any portion of the fund know in what manner they re ceived it and for what services rendered. Notwithstanding all this, men who were fully acquainted with all the faols, and who have been honored with office at the bands of the party, have malicious ly and wickedly, in seasjn and out, for years past, attempted to bring odium upon the persons whom the party had entrusted with the management and conduct of Ils affairs, by circulating all 111 inner of lying rosrts, charging Mini this fund was being diverted to other uses than those for which it was iuleudod. Within the past two weeks, men w ho claim to be gentlemen aud pose as christ ians, some of w hom have hitherto liorn character as truthful men, have ridden up and down the county itterating and reilterating these malicious falsehoods in a bootless effort to secure control of tbe oauty organization. No later than last week a gHerilla sheet published in this town, in a lengthy fulmiuatioiu by a we l-known attorney, falsely assert that there is a largo sum at present iu the hands of the County Chairman. With a view to putting an end to this sort or falsehood aud vii.;.,-ration tho 1Ii:iivi.i secured the consent -i Kx Chairman Biesccker to publish an exact copy of bis financial statement for the year IS. Hi, as audited and certified by the Executive Committee. Mr. Biesecker at tbe same time protrered us for publica tion his audited :uvounts for all of tho five years be was Chairman, lit space will not permit their publication at the present time. They, however, can be seen and examined at any time by any reputable Republican in the county. The statement follows : Receipt and Expenditures of Eepnbliean Primary Election Fund for 1B98.
