A TEW COSTUZIES Worn at the Iaangaral Hall Ker.ders of the Hkrai.d will lie inter ested in tho gow ns worn by tho wife of President MeKinley and some of the la- ilii-s of her family party at the inaugural ball, which is said to have been the crow ning glory of the inauguration. The ffown worn by Mrs. MeKinley was very handsome. Th material was what is known ai cloth of silver. The groundwork was of white satin, heavily woven with a silver thread in a conven tionalized lily design. The train, which was plain, full and sweeping, measured two yards and a half iu length. On the left side it was open over a panel or seed pearls embroidered on satin. Degiuniug at the bottom was a flounce of Venetian point laco of a special and beautiful design, a half-yard iu width, which was cascade narrow at the bottom and gradually widens toward the top, un til it is extended its full width over the hip and out to the back, where it was partly concealed under the full train. The right sido or the skirt was also slash ed open hair way up, and under that also was au embroidered petticoat or pearls. Tho bodice was tight tilting and slight ly pointed at front and liack. Tho low er part was of silver cloth, and the upper aud the back of pearls. The same lace that is used iu the bounce was fastened at the waist line iuuii an arrow point aud draped wider toward the shoulders in a V-shape. From there it spread out over the sleeves and under a strap of silver cloth, two inches at tlie top aud four in ches at the Isiltom. This strip was also embroidered in pearls. The collar was of pearl embroidered satin. From it was a high Medici collar of the laco, wide aud full, to show the pattern. Long and fairly tight were the sleeves and they were finished at the wrist with Vaudyke effects, embroidered at the edge, from w hich they fell from narrow lace of the same design as that on the skirt. Willi this gorgeous gown Mrs. MeKin ley wore a i. unifier of diamonds to fasten the lace, the handsomest beiiif a dia mond star and a sunburst of unusual brilliancy. She also wore exquisite side com lis. The fan carried was of the small empire shape, of lace the same desigu as that on the gown, exquisitely embroid ered in pearls. The lining for the gown was of whito satin, heavy and rich. Around the bot tom insido were half a dozen r lilies to give a mil elfect play to tho train. Mrs. Abner MeKinley was gowned handsomely in a pcarl-Llne brocaded satiu. The l-odiee was decollete, and trimmed in pearl butterflies and Vene tian !'. The girdle was or pearl and brilliants, and a plastron or tho same was laid over the back of the waist. The skirt was plain, with a full train, She wore au exquisite collar of pilaris and dia monds and a diamond crinifiil and aigrette in her hair. Miss Grace MeKinley was gowned in white satin brocade and chilfon. The corsage w as made of chiffon and lace and she carriisl a liouquet of white roses. Miss Mabel MeKinley, daughter or Abner MeKinley, was dressed in white silk, embroidered in lillies of the valley. It was decollete, and half-way around the front was a spray of the lillies. It was trimmed with chitioii aud riblxuis. She carried a bunch of Jillies of the val ley tied with long ribbon lxws ofwhite. The lielle of tho ball was really that de lightful little old lady, "Mother MeKiu ley." Since she arrived in Washington, when she greeted the throng as she stepped from her carriage at the hotel w ith a wave of her small handkerchief ami a cordial smile, she has wou all hearts. She took her meals in the dining room, w here she could see ai.d hear everything, instead of upstairs in the private dining room w ith her sou and bu w ife, anil in every way she has manifested the keen est interest in her happy surroundings. At the ball she wore in honor of the proudest event or her life a stately gow n of black satin, w ith plain demi traiued skirt. The shoit, pointed corsage had surpliced folds of Into chill'in. The w aist had a ripple back and Medici collar the sleeves being finished iu rose point lace to match the cape. There is a mark ed reseiiiblam-e between mother and son, and the way she speaks his name and w atches every movement speaks in ire than words ran tell of the pride she has in him. Blank B jo Vs!
