Jacob B. Schrock, of Stonycreek post ofnee, is the owner of w bat is said to be the largest rooster in this county. The tremendous size of the fowl has attracted widespread attention and for several years past he has been a curiosity in that section of the county. Of course the peo ple of Stonycreek were naturally proud of Mr. Schrock's rooster and were biding their opportunity to place him on exhi bition at the State fair. Their hopes in this dirts-tion have been dissipated, however, for immediately following the Chicago convention and the adoption of a free-silver platform the rooster began to exhibit signs of distress. From that time to this his condition has gradually grown worse and no hope are entertained that be will surv've until after the' election. It is hinted that Mr. Rooster has been an un willing listener to some of the free silver arguments advanced by the friends of Bryan and Sewall in that neighborhood, and that he has become so prostrated from hearing so much un-American gab that he resolved to commit suicide by starvation. Arisman, wio was at the brake, soon, foupd that he was unable to check the course of the machine which had now gained frightful velocity, tearing up emal saplings along the road-side and heading directly fur two giant sujar tree. n order to save thern. selves the three men on the engine leaped for their lives. The two Bittners jumped on the same side and George falling against his brother was thrown back under the wheels. The rear wheel ran over the legs of the unfortu nate young man, dislocating the right leg at tlje kuee-jojnt am crushing the left one to a pulp immediately above the knee. Drs. Louther and Livengood were summoned and rendered professional at tention. The unfortunate youth begged, the physician not to amputate his limb, but it is believed that amputation will have to be resorted to in order to save the victim's life, lioth. axles of the machine were broken and it was only saved from total destruction by getting its wheels cjogged in a staked and ridered fence. Gov't Report ( Influenced by Storms. The case of Robert Murdock of Rost ra ver township, Westmoreland county, is a a peculiar one, but it is vouched for by reputable citizens who know the circum stances. Sixteen years ago Murdock was struck by lightning. He was not killed, but paralyzed. In the course of time he recovered his power and is apparently strong. However, ev ery time there is a storm he is found lying prostrated at whatever point he is when the storm comes on. His family has become so ac customed to the matter that on the oi-ca-slon of every storm they go In search of him. Murdock always tells his family before leaving home in which particular field he will be working. Whenever the storm comes on a specially constructed sled, hauled by a horse, which is kept constantly harnessed, is taken out to the field and M urdock'a apparently litoless body is hauled to the house. In bis room be has an insulated bed containing two heavy feather ticks. He is placed be tween the ticks and in about twenty four hours is as vigorous as ever. KAESIED.
