T. 0a the plantation of Mr. Hillery, in E Igeheldcosnty, there lives a negro who is puzzling kll the people in that section. Every night about balf an hour after he goes to bed be enters into what appears to be a trance, and preaches ser mon. He is quite illiterate, but without book and with his eyes cloud, he takes a text which by reference to the liible ia found to be correct in chapter, verse and wording. When in this slate he is entirely oblivioasof any and everything that may be going on around him, and a phy-ician who has exam ined him says his arm could be taken oft when these sells are on him and be would not know il. In these trance sermons he uses better language than be does in ordina ry conversation, and some nights he preach es two sermons. Jtev. U. M. Chsrles Scribner's Sons that tbry have acquired from Mr. Henry M. 8tanley all the American rights for his personal nar rative of the expedition for the ralief of F.min 1'asha. Prior to the apjiearancs of the complete work, Seriburr't Mitganint will publish an article upon bis last journey, by Mr. Stanley. It will be illustrated, and is aa important s contribution as any that bat ever appeared in an American Magazine. Readers may have noticed that Mr. Her bert Ward, who was one of Stanleys officers, makes no mention of the expedition in the artie'e recounting bis experiences upon the Congo, which appears iu Scribner's for Feb ruary, the fact being that Mr. Stanley has reserved the sole right to describe this most remarkable of all his African undertakings. It is proposed to enpaee matron tir every school build ing, whose duty it ahall be to look after the phy-ica! well being of scholar.. The teacher who attends eionely to her task of filling up the minds of her pupils with iiifurmation has little or no time to inquire whether or not they bare wet fee, damp or insufficient clothing, or cl anly babit. Children with frail bodies and eonsumptivcjjenilenry are as likely as not to be seated next to win dows or Uus)ra where cruel drafts send them into fatal illnew. and. well or ill, the teacher has no option but to enforce upon tbem the taks and lessons of the day.
