It has coma to lie pretty well under stood that with the present supply of apple tree', with even a fair yield, the supply of fruit will be such that there will be only a demand for the best. This is an inevitable consojuence ; in any branch of industry an over supply coru jiels a demand for only the best, and so if there is an over-supply . of apples only those of the best quality and apjiearance wili find a place in the market. If fruit grow ers could only be brought to see the necessity, it would be fur better and re sult iu greater profit in the end, if all would pick off half the fruit as it gets fairly started tj grow. But knowing the dilhcultiea or disinclination to pursue such a course, the next best thing to rec ommend is such a pruning of trees as will diminish the branches to an extent tullicient to throw a considerable propor tion of the force of the tree into the de velopment of the fruit. As a geni-ral rule, enough attention is not paid to this point, and the result will very naturally be an over burden of fruit that cannot be forced to a po int of desirable devel opment, and so is unmarketable. It is much better to attend carefully to pruning- "Father did you ever use to lie when you were a boy?" "So, my son," said the paternal, who evidently did not recali the past with any distinctness.
