Mr. Thomas A. Hastings, for a iong time in the employ of the Balto. and Ohio Rail road Company, and known by many of our readers as the great tramp arrester, now lan gnishes in the Cnioutown jail, charged with assault and battery and carrying con cealed weapons. m We call the attention of our readers to tbe double-column advertisement of W. Few towns of the size of Somerset, can boast of as com plete a jewelry store as Mr. Wood's ; in fact, it is equal to most city stores of the kind. A visit to it will repay anyone. If the Iiegislatore would pass a law requir ing persons con fined in tue county jail for certain offences to perform some kind of manual labor, it would doubtless soon re. lieve the taxpayers from a very large amount of unnecessary expense incurred from numerous trivial cases that now con sume a considerable portion of the time of court.
