Bulwer Lytton in k;. "StraDee Story." ' 18 Yes, but between iU distant ments the bridge of life ha rcariy high and awful arches, through which the wild waters dash and roar in wrath and deflation. Praver and worship alora do not sustain these. Nature's solid rockg roust lay unshaken beneath, and human art and skill must rear and solidify the structure OTerhead. God's will is best exemplified in the laws He has mad? for the creatures whom Ha has placed under their control. Neither the child's trustful "Our Father," nor the old mans " Forget ra not in the midst of mine iiitirm ities," will alter this by the weight of a single grain. Science and art first then faith and prayer is the order of Heaven itself. Pifinity heals through iu agents, and those agents are the discoveries of man ; not the Tagu announcements of prophets or seers. Is life a burden to you ? Does time drag? Up to the time I mentioned I hud suffered from diseased liver for 20 years," said Mr. S. T. Hancock, of Rich mond, a half sadly, as though thinking ot that dilapidated section of his life. "At times I almost wished it had pleased Providence to omit the liver frem the human anat omy." " Bad enough twenty years of that sort of thing," responded a listener. " What was the upshot of it?" 44 The upshot was that sometime ago I went down to Scott's drug store in this city, and bought one of BENSON'S C.PCINE POROUS PLASTERS, applied it, and was re lieved in a few hours, and am now aa sound as though my liver were made of India-rubber." Warm stables for live stock do not necessarily mean that animals shall be boxed up so tight that the supply of freeh air is cut on from witheut, and that there can be no escape ofthe air vitiated and laden with the exha lations from the droppings ant breath of animals. Pure air is es sential to health, whether in man kind or animals. The arrangement of windows or ventilators should be such as to admit the pure air aid let out the feul air. It is true that aany stables are so open to the weather that there is no danger front this source. But in newly-built sta bles, especially in basements, where large numbers of animals are sublet, the danger of lung disease from toe close confinement is by no means small. The base ball fever ia raging in -h eastern part of the State. It has no; yet reached the laterier.
