Ki'iToB JHrai.h: On Friday, March 14th w e had in our school w hat might lie called a mock trial. It was the trial of a horse thief and had been gotten up for the purpose of instructing the punils here as to the manner of conducting trials in court. It bad been arranged beforehand that a man should go to a neighbor's barn and steal a horse. The trial was to be on Friday, the 14th, and therefore a lew days before the time the thief went on his errand. On going to the neighbor's barn, he passed by a stone church where a boy was chopping wood. He told him toget out of his way, and tried tostrike him. He was disguised by wearing a false moustache, and an overcoat turned inside out. He carried something in his hand, which the boy thought to be a revolver. He then went to the neighbor's barn and stole the horse, and while pretending to escape he passed through the village, and was seen by many. He afterwards sold the horse for $.5.00 and a watch to a man who was sta tioned some distance from here for the pur pose of buying it. On Friday evening we all assembled ill the school Mom for the purimse of seeing the trial. The lawyers and officers necessary had already been chosen, ami everything was ready for the trial. The prisoner Was then brought ill, and the trial began. An hour or more was spent by the lawyer in qucsiioiiiiig witnesses, and then t he jury , of which your correspondent was one, was called upon to decide the fate or the prisoner. We could not agree, and so we agreed to disagree. We, the prosecutors, had a majority of two, hut for the sake of the small chiliiicn who were becoming very sleepy, we let it pass as an acquittal although we did not agree on such. The 1 court was then adjourned, and I think that ail were not only pleased but also instruct- ed by it. We are now preparing for the State exam, illation, which will be held on the 12th of May. We will be examined by State Super intendent Dr. V- E. Higbee and State In srtor. Bev. Savers, of Harrisburg. We ex pect a large number of professionals here to w itness the examination, and we hope they w ill be pleased. We have all studied hard during the past year, and I think there is no rea-011 why we should not pass a good ex amination.
