The publisher of Ex-Secretary Blaine's book, "Twenty Years of Congress," has struck a fine bonanza. Fifty thousand copies have already been sold, though the hook is not yet completed, and it is expected the sale will reach a million. Among the many portraits of co n temporary statesmen is one of Ex-Senator Conkling, whose rela tions to Mr. Blaine are well known. When the publisher remonstrated with Mr. Blaine that Mr. Conkling's portrait was not neces sary to the embellishment of the book, Mr. Blain replied: "Roscoe Conkling is the brain of New York to-day as he has been for twenty years past. Last Wednesday morning a man with two small children, a boy and girl, drove np in a buggy to the house of Mr. John Schrock about two miles northeast of town, on the line of the Somerset and Cambria Railroad. Tlie man tied the horse under a shade tree near by, and asked Mr. Schrock if he would see that the horse was kept in the shade during his absence, the sun being very hot, as he was going to Somerset for a short time, lie then, with tlie children, boarded a train going in the direction of Somerset, and has not since been seen or heard of in these part. Mr. Schrock took charge of the horse and buggy and still has them in his ossess ion. The horse is a large, handsome dark bay, pietty well up in years, and has been a very valuable animal. The buggy is com paratively new, and is a very good one. Editor Hekalb! We arrived home safe ly from a delightful four-weeks visit to frinds and relatives in Somerset, We did hot have time to visit all our relatives, as they are as numerous as the Israelites of old. I found Somerset and its people much changed, and for the better. I think. It contains some charming young ladies, who are truly beautiful. I was kindly received, and royally entertained, and am under many obligations to Somerset friendu, as also to the local editor of the Herald for extra papers received. I hope they may be the means of increasing the subscription to the Herald tenfold. Those Somerset peo ple in the west who do not take the Her ald, do not know what they are missing. Somerset contains some very handsome dwellings, and elegantly furnished homes. It has become quite a summer resort, the air and water being pure and fresh, which are the principal elements to make it a de sirable place to live in. I cannot refrain from mentioning th grand scenery between Somerset and Pittsburg. It made me feel like bowing my head in reverence to the lofty mountains, covered with stately forest trees. What need is there to go to Euro to see the Alps, Rhine and Switzerland, when the old Keystone State contains such grand scenery? I will close, for I am afraid of the waste basket.
