R- Escasifxest : Part ot Fourth Brieade oi the National Guard ot PennsylvantA, went into camp at Thompson's blatioa on Tuesday ot last week. Gen. James A. Hearer, command ing. Thompson's Station, be it known, is a hand-board stack up alongside of the P. Y. & C. R. R-, backed by a solitary boose barring this mark; k Is out of knowl edge yet at such a place the encampment waa ordered and held. It is darkly ru mored that the milk in this coeoanut is tbe tact that the Pennsylvania Railroad have leased th ground on which the troops were encamped for a pic nie ground, and that the camp was ordered there for the benefit of that corporation. Certain it ia, that by so placing it, all transportation for troops fell into its hands, no matter what hardships it caused individual companies. To illustrate the trsxsportation ot the com pany ol this place was made to read from Somerset to ' Connellsville, thence to Greensbnrg, thence to Thompson's Sta tion, when the most natural thing in the world would have been to furnish the traaf porta tion via the Pittsburg Division of B & O. R. R. direct to Port Perry and thence across the river to Thompson s. It will be observed that by so doing the only part of the transportation ot "ii" Com pany that would have gone to the P. It U. would hare been tbe one mile from Port Perry to the camp. Tbe conveni ence would have been that "G" Company instead of having to leave here on Mon day Afternoon and laying at Connellsville all night, could hAve saved tbe trouble, expense, and anmrysnce of tbe lay over, to fay nothing of tbe time, by leaving here Tuesday morning by (he B, vV Ca si. U. and have been in camp aooscr than they were by leaving Monday and makine the lay oyer to suit ihe P. It R. The Cn pany frost Bedford were ma down to Huntingdon, thence to Thompson's by tbe P. R. It. at a much greater cost to the State than if they had been sent to Bridge port thence to Port Perry by the B. cc O. ft It The rate allowed by the State tor the transportation ot troops is two c;nts per mile ; any one with a rail read, gide can readily cipher te, deference. We are not incUned to make a scape goat of Major Hill, tie Brigade tuarteraaster, as are many others, but believe that like the soldier he b, he simply obeyed orders. There this to back the position, that he is not responsible It it re true, and we consider our authority for the statement unimpeachable, that when the coaierence to fix the place for holding the encamp met was held, that Col. Hawkins of the Tenth Regiment, and Cot Barchfield oi the fifth Regimeat, withdrew from ti conference rather than have such a pate chosen for a camp with their ccccrrence. The men of "G" Coroxajy wUh us 'to re turn their thanks, to Maj. Hill tor chan gin g their trassportAilon, but at the same time vant it understood that the change woeid not have benefited them ia the least had not their company officers employed a steamboat to trans-port lb era arros he river. The official of the P. Xt R. ocj Uie ground, akbea frttqueBtly appealed to, refused ta furaiah eren a freight car with Watichtotraoaport the uen and their bag gage across tbe rrrer. The 10th Regi ment arrived in camp Tuesday morning only to find ht their tents had aot arriv ed and tbAt there were no commissary stores on the ground. New York, " Sept IS There baa been an unprecedentedlt beavy itn portation of gold from Europe this week. ' The moneT market was com- parstively easy, with fire and six per cent as tbe ruling rates for call loans, aad exceptional transactions at seren and four per cent the latter rate prey ailing at the close. In connection with the bank state ment, the movements of the Treasury and Assay Office this week were very important r rom September 8 to September 13 the amount of gold from tarope aggregated $3,000,000, of which $6,600,000 were deposited ia the Assay Office. The balance was in double eagles and went into the Treasury. Daring the same time the Assay (Juice issued checks to tbe extent of $4,558,000. ' To-day the Assay Office aiso paid cat come large amounts. - - - The Treasury receired daring the week $3,060,000 legal tenders on ac count of four per cent bonds, which reduces the remaining collateral for these bonds to $o,700,000. The cur rency balanca of the Treasury last Saturday was $24,000,000, while to day it was down to $19,000,000 ow ing to the payment of Assay Office check- for gold, aad also for direct deposits of American gold coin re ceived from Europe. From tfce fig ures it will be seen that the banks received large amounts of monsy from tbe Treasury on account of the gold arriving from Europe, but at the same twre they paid considerable in to tbe T.ei-ary for tbe f jar per cent, bonds, aad oent large amounts of currency to the interior. If it bad nx been for these arri vals f gold from Europe, there would have tea a great disturbance in the moawv market. The influx of gold from Europe, as indicated, has assumed enormous proportion, tbe amounts received by the various steamers during tbe past week ag gregating neaily $9,000,000, while to-day comes tbe dispatch from Lon don for this port of 1,000,000 pounds sterling in bullion.
