In order to understand the Judge's posi tion in his party, it should lie known that oa last Saturday he pleaded illness, thus hoping to throw the club otFilieir guard ami prevent them lrom sanding conferees, hilo he himself would rua the S om-jrsyt part of the machine at Altoona. lie was not aware that the only accredit:! conferee of Somerset, was on the train, until alter leaving Johnstown, when his countenance fell, and he instinctively knew that the men whom he so basely endeavored to be try wouid trip him in Lis tracks and ex pose him to shameful defeat. II1S CREDENTIALS. The Crst demand of the committee was f r bis credentials, and it was a luxle podge mess that lie presented. Nothing of the kind was ever seen on earth, in the heavens, or the waters beneath the earth. First ha presented the call of the sore heads for a convention in Somerset; then a copy of the proceedings of that coaven. tion; next a letter of his own accrediting Mr. S. Boiler as a conferee and a return letter lrom Mr. Bogc-r endorsing the Judge as a conferee and recommending him; last bat not least, a letter from Silas H. Lichty, of Meyersdale, calling on him to bewaie of the Cvmmtreiiil and Sain. Adams, w ho had united in behalf of General Campbelk "Who is Silas II. Lichty?' asked a member. One of the m ist rampant Democrats in the county, and an out and out Cotfrolh mm!" was the reply. That settled it, and s-ilas' letter was lurnel down, and the Judge received his first scoring. The Judge replied by traducing Adams as a man or a Greenbacker, but was called to order, and reminded that as yet he had pro-laced uo credentials entitling him to sit in the Couiercnce. Mr. Finegan's credentials were all right, properly endors ed, all of them charging Turner with be ing a traitor to the party. He was ut once admitted. One of the committee now took the Judge in hand and fairly skinned him alive in this barbarous manner: "Judge Turner, did or did you not write a letter to the Democratic Conference at Cresson, asking the nomination ot Uoffrolh, and as suring the support ot tba Independent Republicans and Greenbackcrs whom you controlled ?" The Judge hemmed and hawed and finally said that lie didn't think he put it just iu ihat way. His treachery was made apparent, and his confusion was so great that bis inquisitors, in mercy, eeasod. In the interests of haimuny, up on consultation with the regular conferee fiom Somerset, ho was at leugtb permitted to take his seat in tba Conlerencfc hut feel ing that his power for good or evil was gone, he re f us ad to act, and sal through the entire session communing with his own bitter thought.;, in a tit oi suiks. 1US liiiULT. Conference was held in the ofliac of the Altoona National, and the session be ing opened, Captain S. Adams, ol Somer set, W. B. Barr, of Bedford, and George Arthur, ot Blair, were nominated. After varying results Mr. Barr received a ma jority of the votes, but he withdrew in tavjr of Captain Adaius, H'ho wa then unanimously nominated as the choice of the National G reenback-Labor party ot fhe Seveotetnth Congressional district. THE XOMIKkE. During the tilting td the Conference telegrams were received from several points; one from Cambria cstiec-iallv, ask ing the nomination of Adams.
